Bapu Sarvagod stands at the confluence of cinema, philosophy, and activism. A student of Film Direction and Script Writing from India’s premier Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune (1999) and Fine Art Painting from the legendary Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai (1995), his journey flows beyond conventional creativity. With advanced studies in Philosophy and Vipassana from Mumbai University (2000) and a recent MA (Honours) in Political Science (2023), his understanding of cinema is deeply rooted in spiritual and socio-political inquiry.
Bapu Sarvagod is the writer, producer, and director of the internationally acclaimed feature film "Holy Bastard" (English/Hindi), a powerful narrative based on the Devadasi tradition in India. Released on Amazon Prime UK & US, the film made its mark at prestigious platforms like Cannes and Berlin International Film Festival. His second feature, “AUDIT”, is a socio-political exploration in Hindi, currently gaining traction among discerning audiences and scholars alike.
With over 23 years of experience in research, teaching, and creative mentorship, he has shaped the minds of more than 40,000 filmmakers and writers from across India and abroad. His teachings are not merely technical; they echo the timeless Indian philosophy of ‘Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram’—truth, consciousness, and beauty.
A true seeker in the realm of cinema, Bapu continues to work as a writer-director on feature films and serves as a consultant on various national and international projects. He is the visionary behind the Senseindia Foundation Media Research and Education Forum, established in 1997 during his FTII days. Officially functioning since 2002, Senseindia stands as India's first government-recognized initiative dedicated to fostering socially conscious filmmakers through research, education, and philosophical engagement with the medium.
The foundation is not merely an institution—it is a movement. Its mission is to promote a True Sense of Indian Philosophy through film, culture, and informal education. Under his guidance, many of Senseindia’s alumni have created award-winning cinema that resonates on both national and international stages.
