His name was Max. For many years, the little dog had been curled up in the corner of the camp, silently watching the others being led away, doors opening and closing, while he remained. He didn’t understand why no one had chosen him, he could only wait in silence, wait until he almost gave up hope.

Then one day, everything changed. A gentle hand, a warm look, a door opening to a new world. But after so many winters behind bars, Max still couldn’t believe it was real. He looked around, hesitant, as if wondering: “Will I be able to stay this time? Will they abandon me again?”

Today, he gently placed his paws on my hand, his eyes both hopeful and fearful. I wanted to whisper to him: “This is my home now. No one will abandon me again. I can sleep peacefully, tomorrow morning there will still be someone who loves me.”

Dogs like Max remind us that with love and patience, even the deepest wounds can heal.

In front of the hospital, a dog sat quietly, head bowed low, eyes filled with anticipation. That image made me stop. I asked a security guard, and the answer made my heart ache:

The dog used to follow its owner – a hospital employee – here every day, and then return together. But a few days ago, that man passed away. Since then, the dog has patiently sat in front of the gate, day after day, as if still believing that its owner will return.

That loyalty makes anyone speechless. It is a simple but lasting affection, something that we humans often lose.

Gray Wolf Pups Spotted in Colorado for First Time in 80 Years

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has announced evidence of gray wolf pups in the wild – the first time since the 1940s. Rangers have recorded at least a few pups in a gray wolf pack in a remote area of the state’s northwest.

Gray wolves were nearly wiped out in Colorado due to hunting and habitat loss. The new pack is seen as a welcome sign for the recovery effort, but also poses challenges in managing conflicts between wolves and local ranching communities.

Baby deer lies next to plastic “mother” in sanctuary

At a sanctuary in the US, rangers came across a heartbreaking sight: a baby deer curled up next to a broken plastic deer – a model used for bait or decoration.

According to rangers, the baby deer may have lost its mother and mistaken the model for its mother. It lay still, resting its head on the plastic “mother” with trust, showing that the instinct to follow its mother is still very strong in wild animals.

Conservationists then took the baby deer into temporary care, trying to monitor the real deer herd to help it reunite safely.

American researcher miraculously survives chimpanzee attack in South Africa

Andrew Oberly, 28, a master's student in anthropology and primatology at the University of Texas (USA), dreamed of working with chimpanzees since he was a child. In June 2024, he went to the Chimp Eden Sanctuary (South Africa) - a place that cooperates with the Jane Goodall Institute - to do his thesis.

During a tour, Andrew stepped over a low electric fence to pick up a rock that could be dangerous for visitors. This action angered two adult male chimpanzees, who dragged him over the fence and brutally attacked him. His fingers were bitten off, his nose and ears were lost, many parts of his body were torn, and his lungs were ruptured. The security guard fired a warning shot, then seriously injured a chimpanzee to save Andrew.

The victim was given 25 units of blood, emergency surgery in Johannesburg, and then transferred to the US for treatment and recovery. Despite his injuries, Andrew persevered, completed his master’s thesis from his mother’s house, and received his degree on Mother’s Day. He now founded the Oberly Institute, which helps patients overcome trauma and reintegrate into life.

Lost elephant baby returned to herd in Tamil Nadu

A 5-month-old baby elephant was lost from its herd in the forests of Tamil Nadu, India, leaving many witnesses heartbroken. The little animal wandered around, crying for its mother, while the herd moved away to avoid danger.

The rangers decided not to give up. They used a drone to track the herd about 4 km away, cleaned the elephant, smeared mud to cover up the human scent, and gently placed it on a truck to bring it back to the herd's habitat.

At first, the herd continued to move, but a few days later, the rangers discovered that the baby had found its mother again, sleeping next to her in the forest. The combined efforts of technology and perseverance helped make this a touching reunion happen safely.

Female lions “demand” mating: an interesting biological phenomenon of the king of the jungle

According to studies on the reproductive behavior of lions in Africa, when entering the estrus stage, female lions actively mate many times a day – maybe from 20 to 40 times. Different from the familiar image of the “king of the jungle” dominating, during this period it is the female lion who actively approaches, stimulates and urges the male.

Biologists say that the phenomenon of female lions “biting” the sensitive area of the male lion when the male is tired or stops mating is not a violent act but a signal to force mating again, in order to maximize the possibility of conception. This is an evolutionary strategy that helps ensure the reproductive opportunities of the lion pride and maintain genetic diversity in the population.

Shark Attacks in Florida: Three Victims in 90 Minutes

On June 5, 2024, Walton County Beach (Florida) was shocked when a shark suspected to be a bull shark attacked three people in just 90 minutes.

The first incident occurred at 1 p.m., Elizabeth Foley (45 years old) was swimming with her husband when the shark attacked and bit her left hand and caused serious injuries to her hip. Her husband and local residents promptly provided first aid and saved the victim's life.

About an hour later, 15-year-old twin sisters Lulu - Ellie Gribbon and their friend McCrae Frost (17 years old) were also attacked while looking for "sand dollars" on the beach. Lulu lost her left hand and right leg, McCrae injured his leg, and Ellie escaped. Thanks to two doctors and a nurse on the beach, the victims were able to stop the bleeding and transferred to the hospital in time.

Elizabeth and Lulu have undergone many surgeries, McCrae is recovering. The Florida community raised enough money to pay for Lulu's treatment and prosthetics. Authorities have raised warning flags, urging people to stay away from the water until it is safe.

The she-wolf instinctively curls herself around her mate’s neck — the most vulnerable part of his body — a gesture that is at once protective and tender. In that simple act she offers him absolute trust and unconditional love. Ethologists note that wolves are among nature’s most loyal and devoted creatures, often bonding with a single partner for life. The male, in turn, shows an almost extraordinary gentleness and affection toward his mate — a devotion she knows exactly how to return.

We said a heartfelt goodbye to our beloved Lily today. At 14 years and 7 months, she was truly the best dog we could ever ask for — faithfully bringing in the paper every morning, even on Sundays. We knew her time was drawing near, so we arranged for an in-home euthanasia vet to come on Monday. By that morning she was already slipping away. We kept her comfortable, held her close, and filled her with love until the vet arrived. At 1:10, Lily crossed the Rainbow Bridge, wrapped in our arms and our gratitude for every moment she gave us.

Miraculous survival after grizzly bear rips jaw in Montana

In September 2023, Rudy Nulander, owner of Alpine Adventures ATV rental business in Big Sky (Montana, USA), had a miraculous escape after a fierce attack by a grizzly bear.

According to initial information, Rudy volunteered to use his ATV to track down an injured deer instead of a group of hunting guests. While following the trail in the woods of the Madison Range, he suddenly came face to face with the brown bear. The animal suddenly charged, knocked Rudy down and bit him all over, tearing his lower jaw.

The hunters who accompanied him promptly opened fire, forcing the bear to flee. Rudy received first aid on the spot and waited for a rescue helicopter for nearly two hours before being taken to Bozeman Deaconess Medical Center, then transferred to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition.

Doctors had to use bone and tissue from Rudy's leg to reconstruct his lower jaw, and graft soft tissue to his lips and throat. After weeks of surgery and recovery, he slowly recovered, communicating with his family via a whiteboard and even joking that he had just experienced “the worst French kiss of my life.”

Montana officials have since warned residents and visitors to be on the lookout for bears during the pre-winter larder season. Experts believe the bear may have been protecting a food source or a moose carcass. Despite being the victim of two bear attacks in his life, Rudy Nulander survived and has become a testament to the harsh but surprising nature of the Yellowstone wilderness.

Miraculous escape after great white shark attack.

On the morning off the coast of Eden (New South Wales, Australia), abalone diver Eric Nerhus (41 years old) was working at a depth of 8m when a great white shark suddenly grabbed his head and shoulders and dragged him down. In a life-or-death moment, he used his free hand to stab the animal in the eye, causing it to let go. Eric swam back up and was pulled onto the boat by his son while the shark was still circling below. He suffered a broken nose, deep lacerations to his shoulder and chest, and needed 75 stitches, but survived thanks to a thick lead vest. “I will never forget its black eyes,” he said after recovering.
