I'm inclined to treat home advantage as a relatively minor factor in this game. Boston's road record in the regular season (25-16) was nearly identical to Miami's home record (27-14), and the Celtics have a much better road record in the playoffs (4-2) than the home record (4-5). The most likely swing factor is the 3-point shot. Yes, Miami is on 3s since the start of the game, but the Heat are shooting almost 13 percentage points better on 3s in this series than the Celtics. Boston ranked sixth in the NBA in regular season 3-point percentage while Miami ranked 27th. Typically, shooting variance is responsible when road teams take a 2-0 lead over a higher seed (the 2021 Mavericks-Clippers series was a particularly glaring example this side). With Boston's back against the wall, I'm comfortable giving up a few spots on the road in the name of expected regression. Pick: Celtics -3.5

INDIANAPOLIS — Two-time Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato set the fastest lap at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 27 years on Friday, and defending winner Marcus Ericsson was right behind him, making Chip Ganassi Racing the team to beat ahead of the qualifying weekend for "The Greatest Racing Spectacle."

Sato clocked a lap of 234.753 mph at the start of six-hour practice, the fastest since 1996, before posting a four-lap average of 233.413 with around 16 minutes to go and rain pouring down on the speedway.

Sato said afterwards that he was "on edge" as he squeezed as much speed as possible out of his Honda.

Seth Towns, the former Ivy League Player of the Year who has missed four of the past five seasons due to injury, announced Friday that he will attend Howard for his eighth season of college basketball.

Towns made his decision known in a social media post, writing that he was "so blessed."

Towns, who will be 26 when the next college basketball season begins, hasn't played since 2020-21. He told the Columbus Dispatch on Friday that he had changed his outlook on basketball.

"I think I've restructured my relationship with basketball," Towns told the newspaper. "It's a lot healthier now. I'm not saying I put my whole identity into basketball, but man, it was tough, because that's kind of the only professional aspiration I have. I had. Everything else was sort of subsidiary to that. Now I think I've freed myself from the need to play at any level."

He started his career in 2016 at Harvard, where he won Ivy Player of the Year

NEW YORK — Former All-Star receiver Gary Sánchez is back in the big leagues, this time with the Mets.

Sánchez, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Yankees, joined the Mets on Friday when his contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse.

"It feels good to be back here in New York after all these years with the Yankees," Sánchez said through an interpreter.

Sánchez, 30, hit .308 with a home run, five RBIs, nine walks and 10 strikeouts in eight games at Syracuse. His contract calls for a major league salary of $1.5 million.

"Good teammate, he really took it out there," Mets manager Buck Showalter said.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Rangers star pitcher Jacob deGrom said Friday afternoon he had “turned a milestone” in returning to the active roster by throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session.

"Of course I feel like I've turned a corner," said deGrom, sidelined since April 28 with elbow inflammation. "Everything was fine. Definitely headed in the right direction. I'm ready to go back."

The 25-pitch practice was a step up from his previous session a few days earlier, when he threw "16 or 18" pitches. The focus of his next outing will be to throw an "up-down", during which he will throw, pause, then throw again to simulate what he will experience in a game.
