A Major Step Forward for Education in Arunachal Pradesh: CBSE Sub-Regional Office to Open in Itanagar

In a significant stride toward strengthening educational infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially approved the establishment of a dedicated Sub-Regional Office (SRO) in Itanagar. The new office will be housed at the SCERT campus in Chimpu, with operations set to begin from the academic year 2025–26.

This landmark development promises to bring quicker and more accessible administrative and academic support to CBSE-affiliated schools across the state, which until now had to depend on regional offices located far outside Arunachal Pradesh.

According to education officials, the move will not only streamline school affiliation and examination processes but will also ensure timely resolution of issues, closer monitoring, and better communication between the board and schools.

The establishment of the Sub-Regional Office is part of a larger initiative to decentralize educational governance and cater to the unique needs of remote and diverse regions like Arunachal Pradesh. Stakeholders believe this will have a direct positive impact on the quality of education and institutional efficiency in the state.

Welcoming the move, state authorities expressed their commitment to further empowering educational institutions, stating that this development marks a new chapter in Arunachal Pradesh’s educational journey, bringing both students and administrators closer to national-level academic support.

With the new CBSE Sub-Regional Office at Chimpu, Arunachal Pradesh is now better positioned to support its growing number of CBSE-affiliated institutions and deliver on the promise of quality education for all.

Community of Dekapam Demands Justice After Brutal Murder of Prabash Doley in Itanagar

A wave of grief and outrage has swept through Dekapam village in Jonai subdivision, Dhemaji district of Assam, following the brutal killing of 22-year-old Prabash Doley, a young labourer who was murdered in Chimpu, Itanagar, on June 18, 2025.

According to reports, Doleyβ€”who had migrated to Arunachal Pradesh for construction workβ€”was allegedly hacked to death with a machete by Tai John, a 26-year-old car-wash owner, after a dispute over noise generated from the construction site near a Bharat Petroleum outlet. Eyewitnesses claim that the accused grew enraged over the ongoing work and violently attacked the unsuspecting labourer.

The tragic incident has triggered widespread anger in Prabash’s native village, Dekapam, where community members, youth groups, and student unions, including the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), have demanded capital punishment for the accused.

TMPK released an official statement condemning the incident and demanding that the Arunachal Pradesh Government ensure the accused is charged under appropriate sections for murder and awarded the harshest possible punishment, including hanging. The organization has also sought immediate financial compensation and government support for the bereaved family.

β€œThis is not just the murder of a young man, but the killing of a dream and the dignity of migrant labourers,” said a TMPK spokesperson. β€œWe demand swift justice, and we urge Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the Itanagar Police to ensure the accused does not escape the law.”

The Itanagar Police have confirmed that the accused, Tai John, was arrested on the night of the incident and is currently in judicial custody. An investigation is ongoing, and formal charges are expected to be filed shortly.

Local sources in Jonai report that the news of Doley’s death has left the entire community in mourning. Prabash, described by neighbors as humble and hardworking, had moved to Itanagar to support his family financially. His body was brought back to Dekapam for final rites, attended by hundreds in a somber farewell.

In light of the growing public pressure, rights activists and local leaders have also urged both the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments to address the safety of migrant workers and take steps to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.

As the case progresses, the family of Prabash Doley, the people of Dekapam, and the greater Mising community continue to waitβ€”grieving, but unwavering in their call for justice.

CM Pema Khandu-Led Cabinet Accelerates Hydropower Vision for Arunachal Pradesh

In a landmark move under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh held a Special Cabinet meeting today, where key decisions were taken to fast-track the state’s ambitious hydropower roadmap under the β€œDecade of Hydro Power (2025–2035)” initiative.

With Arunachal Pradesh possessing an estimated 58,000 MW of hydropower potential, the state is now firmly moving to position itself as the β€œPowerhouse of India.” Ongoing investments exceeding β‚Ή2 lakh crore have already been mobilized for 19 GW worth of projects, marking one of the largest renewable infrastructure pushes in Northeast India.

A major highlight of the Cabinet's decisions includes the approval of an Escrow Account mechanism for the strategic and transparent management of future hydropower revenues. Beginning in 2035, the state is projected to earn approximately β‚Ή4,525 crore annually from its share of free power β€” a financial transformation that could reshape Arunachal’s economic landscape.

β€œThis is not just a step, but a leap toward a sustainable and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh,” said a senior Cabinet official. β€œThese decisions will catalyze large-scale industrial growth, ensure long-term energy security, and generate employment for our youth.”

The Cabinet reiterated that the Decade of Hydro Power is not only an energy mission but a vision for inclusive development β€” ensuring that the people of Arunachal directly benefit from the natural wealth of their land.

As the projects progress, the Khandu government also emphasized its commitment to environmental safeguards, community participation, and fair compensation frameworks.

Arunachal Pradesh is now poised to become a national leader in renewable energy, setting a new benchmark for development in harmony with nature.
