Shri Cheechung Chukhu, APCS, Deputy Commissioner of Kurung Kumey, visited Nyobia Circle along with SP Kurung Kumey Shri Bomken Basar, DDSE Shri Tai Tader, and other Heads of Departments.

During the visit, DC Cheechung Chukhu inspected Calvary English School in Sangram, the newly constructed classroom building of NBCC, and also visited Government Middle School, Langro, and various offices under Nyobia Circle.

As part of the Van Mahotsav Plantation Programme 2025, a tree plantation drive was carried out with active participation. He also visited the local Circuit House and the Helipad Ground.

The day concluded with a public meeting where key developmental issues were discussed with community members under the banner of Van Mahotsav.

Today, The Spark News team visited the Government Residential Girls’ School, Apongne (Koloriang), and held a press briefing with , Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) of the school.

During the visit, several pressing issues were highlighted. One of the major concerns is the poor condition of the school’s entry gate and boundary wall, which poses a serious safety risk, especially since many girl students reside in the hostel within the premises. Additionally, the school is grappling with an acute water crisis, affecting the day-to-day needs of the students. There is also a significant shortage of teaching staff, which hampers the quality of education being imparted.

The concerned authorities to take immediate and appropriate action to address these problems to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.

Family of Nehru Murtem Condemns Machete Attack, Demands Justice

The family of Shri Nehru Murtem, the victim of the brutal machete attack on 3rd July at C Sector, Naharlagun, has strongly condemned the act and urged the police and legal system to deliver immediate justice.

They stated that “a criminal doesn’t belong to any tribe, society, or community” and emphasized that “justice delayed is justice denied.” Nehru Murtem has been referred to Guwahati and is in critical condition.

They also offered heartfelt prayers for Miss Hage Anku, another victim of the same attack, and called for strict action to stop the drug menace, which they believe fuels such violence.

The family demanded that no bail be given to the accused and called for immediate, strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.

📢 Important Public Notice from DC Koloriang, Kurung Kumey

In light of growing safety concerns and recent incidents involving the use of lethal weapons in public and government spaces, the Deputy Commissioner of Kurung Kumey District, , APCS, has issued a Prohibitory Order under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

🛑 The order strictly prohibits the carrying of fi****ms, lethal weapons, and other dangerous objects within the premises and limits of all government offices and institutions across the district.

⚠️ This step comes as a preventive measure following reports of individuals entering public premises—such as offices, hospitals, and schools—with sharp weapons like machetes and daos, posing a serious threat to public safety, peace, and law & order.

✅ The order excludes only Police, Para-Military, and government personnel carrying such items in the line of duty.

📌 The prohibitory order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
🚨 Violators will face strict penal action under Section 223 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and other relevant legal provisions.

Machete attack in Naharlagun: Two injured, youth arrested after swift police action

Naharlagun, July 3: Two residents of C-Sector, Naharlagun sustained injuries after a sudden machete attack by a 19-year-old youth on Wednesday afternoon. The accused, identified as Daman Nima, was apprehended by police shortly after the incident.

According to the Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, Nyelam Nega, the violent incident occurred around 1:15 PM when Daman Nima, a resident of Nima village in Upper Subansiri district, began attacking random bystanders with a machete. The Naharlagun Police Team, led by Inspector K. Dev, responded swiftly and arrested the accused near Pachin Road after a brief chase.

The victims have been identified as Nehru Murtem (57), son of late Tagam Murtem, and Hage Anku (54), daughter of late Hage Babing. Both are residents of C-Sector, Naharlagun.

Two cases—NLG/PS Case No. 87/25 and 88/25—under sections 117(3)/109(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been registered against the accused, who is now in police custody.

Police have assured that further investigation is underway and necessary legal action will follow, SP said.
