JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE OF CHAKMA & HAJONG CBOs HOLDS PRESS BRIEFING IN BIJOYPUR

Bijoypur, Bordumsa | September 10: The Joint Action Committee of Chakma and Hajong Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) of Arunachal Pradesh held a press briefing at Bijoypur-1, Bordumsa, on Thursday.

During the briefing, the committee discussed various issues concerning the Chakma and Hajong communities, particularly in connection with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Mahendra Chakma, Chairman, Joint Action Committee of Chakma and Hajong CBOs of Arunachal Pradesh, addressed the media and placed the committee’s concerns, views and perspectives regarding the ongoing developments and issues affecting the two communities.

The briefing comes amid heightened attention surrounding the SIR process in the Bordumsa–Bijoypur area, where administrative and security arrangements have been strengthened as the hearing process continues.

The committee reiterated its position on matters concerning the community and called for due consideration of their concerns during the ongoing process.

🚨 KIREN RIJIJU ADDRESSES CHAKMA-HAJONG ISSUE

Union Minister and Arunachal West MP Shri Kiren Rijiju addressed the media on the long-pending Chakma-Hajong issue in Arunachal Pradesh.

During the briefing, he spoke about the historical settlement of the two communities after 1964 and the constitutional and legal provisions governing their settlement and rights in the State.

Rijiju emphasized that the question of permanent settlement and related rights in Arunachal Pradesh must be examined in accordance with the Constitution, applicable laws and the Supreme Court’s directions, while safeguarding the interests and rights of the State’s indigenous tribal communities.

AAPSU PRESS BRIEFING ON SIR HEARING AT BIJOYPUR

BIJOYPUR, BORDUMSA | September 10: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing was held at Bijoypur, Bordumsa, concerning 30 Form-6 and 198 Form-7 applications.

An AAPSU representative was present during the proceedings and shared the organisation's views on the matters raised during the hearing. The proceedings focused on the verification and consideration of the applications as part of the ongoing electoral roll revision process.

The SIR process in the Bordumsa area has drawn significant attention following the disruption of an earlier hearing on September 4.

AAPSU also briefed the media following the hearing, sharing its observations and stand on the issues discussed during the proceedings.

The SIR hearing, which was stopped on 4 September 2026, has resumed today, 10 September 2026, at Government Secondary School, Bijoypur.

The hearing is currently proceeding smoothly and peacefully, with security and administrative arrangements in place.

Officials and security personnel, including Arunachal Pradesh CRPF, Arunachal Pradesh Special Task Force, DC Changlang, SDPO Miao and ADC Bordumsa, are present at the location.

Namsai, September 8, 2026: The Namsai Journalists Welfare Forum (NJWF) observed its 1st Foundation Day at the Multipurpose Cultural Hall in Namsai on Tuesday, bringing together members of the media fraternity, public representatives, government officials, Heads of Offices, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), students and other stakeholders.

The programme was attended by Chow Sujana Namchoom, Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC), Namsai, as the Chief Guest. The Superintendent of Police, Namsai, and Piyong-Lenkang ZPM attended as Special Guests.

Addressing the gathering, the SP highlighted the media’s role as a pillar of democracy and an important medium for informing and educating the public. He emphasised the importance of accuracy, impartiality, ethical journalism and professionalism in news reporting.

Dr. M. Thaumoung, Nodal Officer, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), spoke on the growing concern of drug abuse and stressed the need for collective efforts to prevent substance abuse, particularly among young people. He emphasised awareness, community participation and coordinated action towards building a drug-free society.

Chief Guest Chow Sujana Namchoom underscored the significance of journalism in society and appreciated the media fraternity’s contribution to highlighting public-interest issues and strengthening communication between the people and the administration. She called upon journalists to uphold professional ethics, impartiality and credibility.

The Foundation Day also provided an opportunity for NJWF members and participating stakeholders to reflect on the forum’s journey and its collective role in promoting responsible journalism, public awareness and constructive community engagement.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening cooperation among media organisations and working towards a more informed, accountable and inclusive society.
