'Countries that have been spared from conflicts without any fault are getting punished': Jaishankar warns of global wars at UNGA

Addressing the 81st high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India's Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed deep concern over the current crises and wars in the world. Jaishankar warned in strong words that developing and poor countries, who are miles away from wars and geopolitical confrontations, are paying a heavy price for those wars, which have no role in starting or ending them. He advised the United Nations to face the realities on the ground, saying that the voice of the countries most affected in today's world is the least heard on international platforms. History
Jaishankar elaborated on the Russia-Ukraine war, tensions in the Gulf and West Asia, attacks on merchant ships on international waterways, and the devastating effects on global food and energy security.
"Those whose war is not with the enemy, are suffering losses"
Addressing leaders from around the world at the United Nations headquarters, the Foreign Minister said:
"Today, countries that are far away from the geographical areas of conflicts are being punished without any mistake. The countries that are most affected by these wars, their opinions are often given the least weight in decision-making processes. This General Assembly will have to face this true and bitter situation of the world."
He pointed out that when war breaks out in the Globalised Economy, its waves spread across the entire world. Inflation, sky-high fuel prices, fertilizer crisis, and food insecurity have become a matter of life and death for developing countries (Global South).

Ukraine conflict: Jaishankar said that the Ukraine war has now entered its fifth year, which is extremely worrying. He reiterated that the era of endless wars should now come to an end and it is imperative to adopt diplomacy and dialogue for peace.
Attacks on commercial ships and sailors are unacceptable: Jaishankar has termed the attacks on commercial ships and sailors passing through international waterways in the Gulf Region and the Red Sea as completely unacceptable. He said that disrupting the unimpeded flow of energy and trade is a blow to the global economy. India has also recently launched the 'Group of Friends' initiative for the security of international sailors. History
West Asia and two-state solution: Speaking on the ongoing violence in West Asia, he appealed to the citizens for their safety and reiterated that lasting peace in this region can only be achieved through a practical 'two-state solution'.
The world is standing on a cliff, peace is not just the absence of war
Jai Shankar warned the United Nations that if the world continues to live under the shadow of threats, sanctions, and pressures, we are truly standing on the brink of an Abyss.
He said that true peace is not just the absence of war, but it requires stability, security, and predictability in the international system. India is ready to provide every possible humanitarian and diplomatic assistance to restore food, grain, and energy security.
