At 59, Vasanthi Cheruveettil, a tailor from Kerala, achieved the extraordinary by trekking to Everest Base Camp without any formal training. She prepared for the challenge by walking daily and watching trekking videos on YouTube. Despite doubts from friends, Vasanthi remained focused on her dream. She faced tough weather conditions, which forced her to take an alternate route via Surke, trekking for six to seven hours a day. To manage fatigue, she took frequent breaks. Her journey gained widespread attention after she waved the Indian flag at the base camp while wearing a traditional Kasavu saree. Vasanthi, who funds her travels through her tailoring business, is no stranger to adventure. Last year, she traveled solo to Thailand after her friends backed out. Now, with Everest Base Camp behind her, she aims to conquer the Great Wall of China.

Bihar Police Constable Deepak Kumar was dismissed from his role as bodyguard to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator Tej Pratap Yadav after a video went viral showing him dancing in uniform at Holi celebrations. The video, widely circulated on social media, shows Tej Pratap instructing the constable to dance or face suspension. The Patna SSP issued a dismissal order for Deepak Kumar, reassigning him to a police center and replacing him with another constable. The incident triggered criticism from political factions, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which condemned Yadav’s behavior as disrespectful towards law enforcement and reminiscent of the "Lalu Prasad-Rabri Devi days." Tej Pratap, in his defense, posted on social media, claiming the incident was a light-hearted request for Holi celebrations and criticized BJP and RSS for politicizing the matter. With no knowledge of the stock market, Dhillon turned to social media for guidance on whether the shares were still valid. An X user responded, estimating the shares' current value at over ₹12 lakh, considering the three splits and two bonuses the company had undergone. The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) informed Dhillon that if the shares had remained unclaimed, they could have been transferred to IEPF. However, Dhillon was unable to find his shares in the IEPF database. Zerodha also offered to assist him. One user advised keeping the shares in remat format to avoid temptation and potentially gain even bigger returns in the future.

On Tuesday, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants hijacked the Jafar Express train, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. The militants blew up a railway track, forcing the train to derail and trapping it inside a tunnel. Gunfire erupted, and the train was forced to stop. Over 450 passengers were taken hostage, including some held next to su***de bombers. Pakistani security forces launched a full-scale operation to free the hostages, with 155 passengers rescued. The train's driver was wounded and later killed, and several other people were reported dead in the attack. The militants checked IDs and took passengers from outside the province, including soldiers, as hostages. They have threatened to execute some hostages unless certain Baloch political prisoners are released. The BLA is the largest armed group in Balochistan, a region known for its mineral wealth and ongoing conflict with Pakistan’s government.

Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old Indian student from the University of Pittsburgh, went missing while vacationing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with five female friends. Last seen in the early morning of March 6, Konanki was reportedly at a nightclub before heading to the beach. Her clothes were later found on a beach bed near the ocean. Authorities suggest she may have drowned, but no evidence of violence has been found. A man who was with her on the beach claims they swam together and were caught by a large wave. He later fell asleep on the beach, and Konanki was gone when he woke up. The investigation continues, with U.S. law enforcement agencies collaborating with Dominican authorities. A Disturbing case reported from Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district, a 14-year-old Dalit girl suffered a brutal ordeal involving kidnapping, torture, and repeated gang r**e. The police statement detailed that the perpetrators subjected the minor to severe physical and psychological abuse, including branding her hand with an 'Om' tattoo using acid, and forcibly feeding her meat, adding layers of religious and caste-based humiliation to her torment. The girl was reportedly abducted on January 2, 2025, by four men who incapacitated her with an intoxicant and held her captive in a secluded room where she was continuously assaulted. The accused also threatened her life and that of her family to deter her from reporting the ordeal. She eventually escaped confinement and found her way back to her aunt's home. Authorities have initiated an investigation, booking the suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. So far, one of the accused has been arrested and the search continues for the others amid ongoing threats from the accused to the victim's family to withdraw the complaint.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Mumbai and its neighboring districts, Thane and Raigad, on March 9 and 10, as temperatures are expected to exceed 38°C. This is the second heatwave alert in the city within two weeks. On Thursday, the Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3°C, over 5°C above the normal. The previous day, the city reached 37.4°C, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow warning for “hot and humid” conditions.
The rising temperatures are attributed to an anticyclone system forming in the region, which is causing strong easterly winds to delay the sea breeze. As a result, daytime temperatures are soaring by 4-5°C above normal. This is typical for March, a transition period from winter to summer. Last month, Mumbai experienced its highest temperatures in eight years, reaching 38.7°C.

Ranya revealed her family background, including her father, businessman KS Hegdesh, and her husband, architect Jatin Hukkeri. She pledged to cooperate with the investigation and remained in judicial custody. Reports suggest she made multiple trips to Dubai and earned ₹4-5 lakh for each kilogram of gold smuggled. Following her arrest, a raid on her home recovered more gold jewelry and ₹2.67 crore in cash. Authorities believe she was part of a larger smuggling network.

The United States Supreme Court has rejected an "emergency application" filed by Tahawwur Rana, a key suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, opposing his extradition to India. Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, argued that he would face torture in India due to his Muslim background and Pakistani heritage. He claimed that his extradition would violate U.S. law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture.
In his petition, Rana also highlighted his severe medical conditions, including heart issues, Parkinson’s disease, kidney disease, and a history of multiple health complications, which he argued could make extradition a "death sentence." Despite his appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court decided against granting a stay.
Rana, who is linked to Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, is accused of being involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people. His extradition follows a recent announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Two Indian nationals, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan Perumthatta Valappil, have been executed in the UAE after their death sentences were upheld by the UAE's Court of Cassation. Both from Kerala, Muhammed Rinash was convicted for murdering an Emirati national, while Muraleedharan was sentenced for killing an Indian. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the ex*****ons on Thursday, stating the Indian Embassy in the UAE had provided legal and consular assistance to the two men, including submitting mercy petitions and requests for a pardon. The Embassy is also assisting the families with arrangements for the last rites. Muraleedharan had been in jail since 2009, while little is known about Rinash's family. The Indian government is coordinating with the families to ensure they can participate in the funeral proceedings.
