Questions raised over alleged stone quarrying on TMC land

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) district president Manoj Pradhan has alleged illegal stone quarrying on land allotted to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in Atkoli, Bhiwandi, claiming that substantial royalty revenue has been lost. He also questioned the functioning of the solid waste management project and raised concerns over the role of civic officials and Antony Lara Enviro Solutions. Pradhan has demanded an SIT probe into the alleged stone excavation and irregularities at the site.

Expired food products found relabelled at Turbhe warehouse

The FDA has uncovered an alleged racket involving the relabelling of expired food products at a warehouse in MIDC, Turbhe. Around 114 types of products, including chips, Kurkure, Maggi and masala products, were found. Officials said expiry dates were allegedly altered and the storage licence has been suspended. The investigation is examining suppliers, purchasing agencies, distributors and retailers. Nearly 200 man-hours were spent over six days inspecting, segregating and sampling the stock. Officials said stringent action is possible under food safety laws.

NMMC approves integrated health policy 2026

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Integrated Health Policy 2026 has been approved, with corporators backing stronger healthcare infrastructure while raising concerns over a proposed super-speciality hospital on a sports ground. Members stressed the importance of preserving open spaces for children and preventive healthcare, while suggesting alternative plots for the hospital. They also called for existing municipal hospitals, primary healthcare centres and urban health posts to be strengthened and made fully functional.

FDA unearths Food relabelling scam

Food and Drugs Joint Commissioner said a tip-off led officials to monitor Sadhana Enterprises in Turbhe MIDC, following which the raid was conducted. “Using different chemicals, old labels were removed, and a laser inkjet machine was used to print new manufacturing and expiry dates.” Officials segregated the stock over five days and completed the investigation.

FDA seizes Rs 75.21 lakh food stock in Turbhe raid

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided Sadhna Enterprise in Turbhe MIDC and seized 4,942 cartons of food products worth around Rs 75.21 lakh. Officials found products with allegedly altered manufacturing and expiry dates, as well as changed ingredient information. Goods worth Rs 30,000 were also found without labels or past their expiry dates. A case was registered against the company’s owner and partners, while its licence was cancelled.

Civic worker filmed threatening shopkeeper in Vashi

A video purportedly showing an NMMC encroachment department worker threatening a shopkeeper in Vashi has sparked outrage. The shopkeeper had reportedly confronted the worker over the removal of material during an anti-encroachment drive, following which the worker allegedly made an obscene threat involving his wife. The video has circulated on social media, with citizens demanding a police case and strict action. Authorities are yet to confirm whether a case has been registered.

Mumbra youths uphold Hindu-Muslim unity

Thane: Mumbra youths worked for nearly four hours to safely transport a 20-foot Ganesh idol after the trolley carrying it broke down near Dabholkar Naka around midnight. Arif Sayyed alias Papa, Basit Sheikh and Shahu gathered local youths, arranged a crane and ensured the idol was safely shifted to a replacement trolley. The Muslim youths also performed a coconut-breaking ritual before the idol resumed its journey towards Bhiwandi, highlighting communal harmony.

Festive season push coconut prices up by Rs 15-20

Coconut prices have increased by Rs 15-20 per coconut during the Hindu month of Shravan and are likely to remain high during Ganeshotsav due to an increased demand. Retail prices have risen from Rs 30-40 to Rs 40-60, adding to household expenses for the common man. Traders say supply from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka remains a key factor and they expect prices to stay high for the next two to three months.

Car crashes into traffic police booth in Belapur

A speeding Kia Sonet crashed into a traffic police booth in Belapur after breaking through a roadside metal railing. The car rammed into a nearby room, damaging its wall, while the vehicle also suffered damage. Police said the driver allegedly lost control due to negligent driving. Belapur police have registered a case against the driver for endangering human life and are investigating the incident.

Third Shravan Somvar marked with prayers and Rudrabhishek

The third Somvar (Monday) of the holy Shravan month was observed with devotion as devotees offered prayers and performed Rudrabhishek at temples. Special pujas were conducted for Lord Shiva, with devotees seeking blessings for peace, prosperity and well-being. Temples witnessed a steady flow of worshippers throughout the day across the city, as devotees observed traditional rituals and participated in the religious celebrations.
