The Gujarat High Court has ruled that a Muslim trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act can be treated as a waqf under Section 43 of the Waqf Act, 1995. The court rejected the trust’s claim that it was only a charitable trust and questioned the basis of a 2011 Waqf Board communication declaring it was not a waqf.

A Mumbai court has granted bail to TISS student Abhirup Ashim Paul, arrested over alleged slogans supporting jailed activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.
