Through Photopia, the annual photography exhibition of the students of Still Photography and Visual Communication at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, these emerging photographers shall showcase their personal projects, along with a section of their combined work.
We shall introduce these projects in our subsequent posts.
First up is Varun Gupta's project on Yamuna. Varun intends to show the deteriorating plight of Yamuna through his project.
The Yamuna river, often called Delhi’s lifeline, is gasping for life. The 22 km stretch of the river along the national capital has virtually no aquatic life, thanks to over 20 drains that pour untreated sewage and other waste into the river.
"The idea of this project was to observe the various points of interaction between Delhi and the river Yamuna, from Okhla in the south to Wazirabad in the north. The aim is to analyze the culture prevalent there, and to understand how urbanization is affecting the river," says Varun.
