Rural Gujarat saw the highest inflation among 22 states for which data was released on Friday. The CPI-based inflation in rural Gujarat was at 10.14 per cent in July, compared with 8.91 per cent in the previous month.

Odisha was another state where double-digit inflation was recorded in rural areas. The rate of price rise climbed to 10.02 per cent in these areas in July, compared with 9.94 per cent in June.

Difference between inflation in rural and urban parts of Gujarat and Odisha was also quite higher than the national average

A case has been registered against the Italy-born Odissi dancer and Padma Shri awardee Ileana Citaristi for allegedly misbehaving with a student at the dance school run by her at Bindu Sagar area in Bhubaneswar. “It is absolutely a false case.

"I have asked the police to come during class time so that they can collect evidence from all other students,” Citaristi told HT.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has rejected a multi-billion dollar bauxite mining project of Anil Agarwal-led (pictured) Vedanta in Odisha on grounds that villagers do not want any mining activity in the area.

Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi had spoken against the project while supporting the rights of tribal of the Niyamgiri Hills.

Odisha has been chosen as the ‘Focus State’ at the upcoming 33rd India International Trade Fair 2013, Minister for Textile, Handloom & Handicrafts, Sarojini Hembram, will attend the inauguration ceremony to be held at 11 AM on November 14.

Interestingly, South Africa has been selected as the “focus country” for the second successive time in the fair. Bihar has been accorded the status of “partner state”. The Trade Fair will continue till November 27.
