Northern Railway to run a pair of local passenger train service between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station & Sangaldan station for five days from 08th September

*This service shall serve as a lifeline in the region till road connectivity is restored*

New Delhi, 06 September

To aid the stranded passengers owing to incessant rains and flash floods of district Reasi and Ramban and roads getting damaged, Northern Railway has come to respite by planning a pair of local passenger train service connecting SVDK Katra stn to Sangaldan station via Reasi, Bakkal and Dugga stns and back for the next 5 days from 8/9 to 12/9 (timings attached).

The service shall provide immediate relief to the stranded passengers and will help restore the critical connectivity and will surely serve as a lifeline till road connectivity is restored.

DGBR Inspects Road Infrastructure in Jammu Division

Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, PVSM, VSM, DGBR inspected the roads affected by the recent unprecedented rains in the UT of J&K. He visited the two strategically important roads of Ramkot-Ranjit Sagar Dam and Basholi-Bani Road. Both these roads have suffered extensive damages. He visited Pedu Nala location where two bridges were displaced owing to heavy landslides. He oversaw the construction of diversions being constructed to restore the traffic.
He visited Bhoond at Km 47 on Road Bani Basholi, where a significant portion of road was completely washed away in the deluge, which has left a gap in the road. He inspected the formation cutting work in constructing an entirely new access alignment to restore the road communication.

During his visit, the DGBR interacted with Mr Darshan Kumar, MLA Basholi and assured him of efforts by BRO to restore road communication at the earliest.

The DGBR complimented personnel of Project Sampark in their efforts to restore road communication. He exalted all personnel to continue the good work in the coming days.DGBR Inspects Road Infrastructure in Jammu Division

Heavy rains in parts of Jammu & South Kashmir till today afternoon, gradual improvement expected thereafter: Meteorological Centre

Srinagar, Sept 03: Renowned weatherman and former Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Sonam Lotus, on Wednesday cautioned people about the fast-rising water levels across Jammu and Kashmir due to continuous heavy rainfall.

He, however, maintained that the intensity of rainfall would gradually decrease from the afternoon, with normal weather conditions likely to return from tomorrow.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Lotus said:“Due to heavy rainfall, the water levels are rising fast, and people must remain cautious. We expect the intensity to continue till afternoon, after which there will be a gradual decrease. From tomorrow, the weather is likely to turn normal.”

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has also issued an advisory urging people to stay alert, warning of possible flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

Authorities have reported a significant rise in the water levels of the Jhelum, Tawi, and other local rivers and tributaries, raising concerns about flooding and waterlogging in low-lying regions.

“People are requested to stay updated and follow official weather advisories closely for their safety,” the advisory added.(KINS)
