U.S. Has Not Approved Patriot Missile Production License for Ukraine, Trump Says

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Washington has not approved a license allowing Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missile interceptors, clarifying that discussions are still underway.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the United States must be cautious about sharing advanced military technology, arguing that sensitive defense capabilities should be protected because of the potential long-term security risks. While he acknowledged that the issue remains under discussion, he stressed that no final agreement has been reached.

The clarification comes after earlier statements had suggested Ukraine could receive permission to produce Patriot interceptors domestically. Kyiv has been seeking the ability to manufacture the missiles to strengthen its air defense network as Russian missile and drone attacks continue.

For now, the U.S. position is that talks are ongoing, but a production license has not been formally approved.

NATO Confirms Russian Kh-101 Missile Struck Poland During Major Ukrainian Assault

A Russian Kh-101 cruise missile breached Polish airspace and struck the country during Russia's widespread aerial bombardment of Ukraine on July 30. NATO and Polish military authorities have now officially confirmed the incident, marking a direct weapons impact on NATO territory.

The missile impacted near the Polish-Ukrainian border, roughly 50 kilometers inside Polish territory, creating a 10-meter crater. Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk stated that the weapon involved was specifically a Kh-101, a platform capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The strike occurred amid an intense Russian barrage across Ukraine that targeted multiple cities. No Polish casualties were reported in the impact zone, though the incident has escalated concerns about the broader conflict's geographic scope.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed the alliance has validated the missile's Russian origin and is monitoring Poland's response. Polish officials are continuing investigations into whether the strike represented a deliberate action or resulted from targeting systems malfunction during Ukraine's air defense operations. Both possibilities remain under examination.

This represents the first confirmed instance of Russian ordnance reaching NATO territory since the 2022 invasion began.

🇬🇧 UK to Hold Largest Home Defence Exercise in Decades to Test National Readiness

The United Kingdom has announced plans to conduct its largest home defence exercise in decades in 2027, bringing together the military, emergency services, government departments, and other key agencies to test how the country would respond to a major national security crisis.

The exercise is designed to strengthen coordination during a range of potential threats, including cyberattacks, sabotage, disruption to critical infrastructure, and other large-scale emergencies. Officials say the goal is to identify weaknesses, improve decision-making, and ensure the country is better prepared for future challenges.

The announcement reflects a broader effort by the UK government to enhance national resilience as the global security environment becomes increasingly complex.

Trump Declares Iran MoU 'Over' as Oil Prices Surge More Than 5%

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the interim Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran is effectively over, saying he no longer wants to negotiate with Iranian leaders following the latest escalation in tensions.

Speaking after fresh U.S. military strikes, Trump defended the operation, warned that additional action could follow if Iran continues its current course, and also criticized NATO while singling out Spain over its position on the conflict. The developments added to concerns about stability in the Middle East and raised fears of potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

Global energy markets reacted quickly, with oil prices climbing by more than 5% as investors assessed the risk of further escalation in the region. The latest developments mark another setback for diplomatic efforts and have increased uncertainty over the security situation in one of the world's most important energy corridors.

What Is a Hydroacoustic Buoy? Understanding One of Naval Aviation's Most Important Tools

A hydroacoustic buoy, more commonly called a sonobuoy, is a small expendable sensor dropped into the ocean by maritime patrol aircraft or anti-submarine helicopters. Once it hits the water, the buoy deploys a floating antenna on the surface while a submerged hydrophone hangs below at a selected depth. Its job is simple in principle but incredibly valuable in practice: listen to what is happening beneath the waves. Every submarine, ship, or underwater vehicle creates its own acoustic signature through engines, propellers, pumps, and hull vibrations, and these sounds can travel long distances underwater.

Modern hydroacoustic buoys do far more than just "listen." Depending on the type, they can either passively monitor ocean noise or actively send out sound pulses and analyze the echoes that return from underwater objects. The collected data is transmitted in real time to the aircraft, allowing operators to detect, classify, and track submarines without entering the water themselves. Aircraft often deploy multiple buoys across a wide area, creating an underwater surveillance network that helps crews narrow down a target's location with much greater accuracy.

These buoys have become a cornerstone of anti-submarine warfare and maritime surveillance. They are routinely carried by aircraft such as the P-8 Poseidon, P-3 Orion, Tu-142, and several naval helicopters around the world. Beyond military operations, similar acoustic technology also supports oceanographic research and environmental monitoring. In military service, however, hydroacoustic buoys remain one of the most effective ways to extend an aircraft's awareness below the ocean's surface, giving naval forces a critical advantage in detecting threats that would otherwise remain hidden.

Su-35: Strengths and Weaknesses – A Balanced Analysis

The Sukhoi Su-35 is widely considered one of the most capable non-stealth fighters in service today. Rather than being a completely new design, it is the most advanced evolution of the Su-27 family, incorporating upgraded engines, avionics, radar, and electronic warfare systems. While it excels in several areas, it also has limitations that become more apparent against modern fifth-generation aircraft.
Strengths

The Su-35's greatest advantage is its exceptional flight performance. Powered by two AL-41F1S engines with thrust-vectoring nozzles, it offers outstanding agility, rapid acceleration, and a high climb rate. This makes it highly effective in close-range engagements and difficult to outmaneuver.

Another major strength is its long operational range. Thanks to its large internal fuel capacity, the aircraft can conduct long-duration patrols and es**rt missions without relying heavily on external fuel tanks.

Its Irbis-E PESA radar remains one of the most powerful mechanically scanned radar systems in service, capable of detecting and tracking multiple targets at long range. Combined with the Khibiny electronic warfare suite, the Su-35 has strong situational awareness and defensive capabilities.

The aircraft can also carry a wide variety of air-to-air missiles, precision-guided bombs, anti-ship missiles, and anti-radiation weapons, making it a highly versatile multirole platform.

Drawbacks
The Su-35's biggest weakness is its lack of stealth. Despite minor radar signature reductions, it remains far more detectable than modern stealth fighters, allowing advanced opponents to potentially engage it first.

Its PESA radar, while powerful, is generally considered less advanced than modern AESA radars, which offer better resistance to jamming, improved reliability, and greater operational flexibility.

The aircraft is also relatively large, increasing both its radar and visual signature. Like most modern fighters, it performs best when supported by airborne early warning aircraft, electronic warfare assets, and integrated air-defense networks rather than operating alone.

Overall Assessment
The Su-35 remains one of the world's most capable fourth-generation-derived fighters. It combines excellent maneuverability, long range, a powerful weapons load, and advanced avionics into a mature and combat-proven platform. However, its lack of stealth and older radar architecture mean it faces increasing challenges against modern fifth-generation fighters and advanced integrated air-defense systems. Its true effectiveness ultimately depends on pilot skill, tactics, and the support network surrounding it.
