Youth Uprisings Topple Leaders in Bangladesh, Nepal.
Two South Asian nations have been rocked by back-to-back youth-led revolts, forcing out powerful leaders within two years.
In Bangladesh, student protests against a controversial quota system swelled into mass demonstrations. A deadly crackdown killed over 1,500, but the movement only grew, driving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee Dhaka in 2024.
In Nepal, Gen Z activists opposing a social media ban ignited a wider uprising against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Accusations of corruption and nepotism, amplified by the viral hashtag , fuelled unrest. After 19 protesters were killed in Kathmandu, the movement spread nationwide, compelling Oli to resign in 2025.
Both uprisings signal a generational revolt against entrenched privilege and dynastic politics across the region.....
