Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s rendition of Raga Maru Behag is a mesmerizing blend of classical purity and innovative expression. Bhajan Sopori is renowned for his expertise in playing the Santoor. He is the only classical musician to have composed music for more than 4000 songs in various languages of the country. Born in Kashmir to a family of musicians, he is the bearer of the rich musical legacy of the fabled Sufiana gharana of Kashmir. He combines a profound knowledge of music and musicology, and has carried out immense research on naad (sound) and sound therapy. Santoor maestro Bhajan Sopori, often referred to as the 'saint of santoor' and 'king of strings' for his mastery over the instrument, passed away at the age of 73. His demise created a huge void in the music fraternity, but his music and contribution to music will be remembered by generations to come. This performance on Raga Vibhas is one of his gems that was recorded for Music Today
