Late-night thoughts for college students figuring out this whole AI thing:
You’re in a unique position - you’re learning with AI, not having to unlearn old ways of working. That’s actually a superpower if you use it right.
Here’s the play:
∙ Treat AI like a really smart peer reviewer. Share your rough drafts and ask “what’s unclear here?” or “what assumptions am I making?” - way better than getting torn apart in class unprepared.
∙ Use it to build your curiosity muscles. Down a rabbit hole at midnight about quantum physics or Renaissance art? Ask follow-up questions until you actually get it, not just memorize it.
∙ Practice explaining complex ideas simply. If you can make AI understand your research topic like you’re explaining it to your roommate, you’ve actually mastered it.
∙ Generate the study guide, then actually study from it. Make flashcards, practice problems, summary sheets - but do the learning part yourself.
Real talk though:
The students getting hired aren’t the ones with perfect GPT-generated resumes. They’re the ones who can say “here’s the problem I solved, here’s how I used AI as one tool among many, and here’s what I learned that made me better.”
Build skills, not shortcuts. The market’s already crowded with people who can prompt - it needs people who can think.
