He was one of the Twelve β someone who had walked beside Jesus for three years, eaten at His table, listened to His teaching, been called friend. And then, for thirty pieces of silver, he made a choice that would define the rest of his life.
Judas didn't betray Jesus with a weapon or a public accusation. He did it with a kiss β the same gesture friends used to greet each other. In the garden of Gethsemane, in the dark, he walked up to the man he'd followed for years and kissed His cheek, marking Him for the soldiers waiting behind him. And Jesus knew. He'd always known this moment was coming. He let the kiss land anyway.
Hours later, the weight of what he'd done became unbearable. Judas tried to return the silver, tried to undo what couldn't be undone. But guilt without grace is a heavy thing to carry alone β and that same night, another disciple, Peter, was failing Jesus too, denying Him three times before sunrise. The difference wasn't the size of their failure. It was what came after.
Peter wept and stayed close. Judas despaired and walked away. One found forgiveness because he was still there to receive it. The other never gave himself the chance to ask.
This isn't just a story about betrayal β it's a reminder that no failure disqualifies you from grace, as long as you don't walk away from the One who's still offering it.
