Typhoon Dolphin forced more than 1 million people to evacuate across eastern China as torrential rain threatened widespread flooding and landslides.

Wenzhou relocated more than 900,000 people, while Shanghai moved 215,600 residents from high-risk areas and opened emergency shelters.

Central Shanghai recorded nearly 313mm of rain in 24 hours, its highest 24-hour rainfall in more than 150 years, while another station recorded nearly 400mm.

The storm cancelled more than 1,300 flights in Shanghai and suspended public transport, while authorities warned that some areas could receive an additional 200-400mm of rain.

Dolphin also brought Hong Kong its hottest day ever at 36.9°C, disrupted Taiwan and Japan, and intensified monsoon flooding in the Philippines.

Astronomers at Ukraine’s Main Astronomical Observatory claim they detected more than 20 anomalous objects near the Moon using a high-speed camera in 2025.

The team estimates some objects could be 440 meters to 15–25 miles wide and travelling at speeds of up to 11 km/s, but those calculations rely on assumptions.

The study also suggests the Moon could serve as a UFO base, with some objects allegedly flashing in sync and rotating every three minutes.

However, the findings come from a non-peer-reviewed preprint, and the same team was previously criticised over major errors in earlier UFO research.

Scientists say there is no confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial technology, and the claims remain unverified without independent confirmation and peer review.

The Perseid meteor shower will peak on the night of August 12–13, 2026, giving people a great chance to see shooting stars. NASA considers the Perseids one of the best and most popular meteor showers each year.

The Perseids come from dust and debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. When Earth passes through this debris, the particles enter the atmosphere at about 59 km/s (37 miles per second) and burn up, creating bright streaks in the sky.

Under dark skies, you could see around 30–50 meteors per hour during the peak. Under perfect conditions, the rate can theoretically reach about 100 per hour, but the actual number depends on your location, weather and light pollution.

2026 is a particularly good year to watch. The Moon will be new around the peak, so moonlight won't interfere much with the meteors.

For the best view, get away from city lights and watch after midnight, especially before dawn. The northeastern sky is a good direction to watch.

Some Perseids can appear white, yellow, green or other colors. However, “rainbow meteors” isn't the official name of the shower. Meteor colors can be affected by their composition and how they interact with Earth's atmosphere.

Coca-Cola's personalized can feature is under scrutiny after a Fox News Digital test uncovered striking inconsistencies in which messages its system would allow.

Phrases including "Jesus is Lord," "Make America Great," and "White Lives Matter" were rejected, while "Atheist Pride," "Pe*****le Pride," and "Defund the Police" generated personalized can previews.

Coca-Cola says the results stemmed from a "technical issue" and has since disabled the preview feature and paused new personalized product orders while it works to fix the problem.

Donald Trump stopped a toddler from wandering toward the edge of the stage during an event in Las Vegas where the child’s family was speaking about Trump Accounts.

After guiding the child back safely, Trump joked, “I don’t want him to be Biden and fall off the stage!“, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The remark referenced former President Joe Biden’s 2023 fall at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony after he tripped over a sandbag.

Moments later, the toddler thanked Trump by saying, “Thank you for my Trump Account,” and Trump replied, “Good job.”

The brief rescue and Biden joke quickly went viral, making the lighthearted exchange the biggest talking point from the event.

Hiroshima marked the 81st anniversary of the world's first wartime atomic bombing on August 6, 2026, with a memorial ceremony calling for peace and a world without nuclear weapons.

The United States dropped the "Little Boy" atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, during World War II. The explosion destroyed much of the city and killed an estimated 70,000 to 80,000 people instantly. By the end of 1945, the death toll had risen to about 140,000 because of injuries and radiation.

Thousands of survivors, government officials, diplomats, and visitors gathered at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and observed a moment of silence at 8:15 a.m., the exact time the bomb exploded.

During the ceremony, Hiroshima officials again called for a world free of nuclear weapons, saying growing global tensions make nuclear disarmament more important than ever. Japan's leaders also stressed the need to preserve survivors' stories and pass them on to future generations.

Three days later, on August 9, 1945, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Japan announced its surrender on August 15, 1945, ending World War II.

Hiroshima's annual memorial reminds the world of the human cost of nuclear weapons and the importance of preventing nuclear war.

Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Tower has passed 100 floors, reaching 107 floors and a height of about 430 meters (1,410 feet) as it moves closer to becoming the world's tallest building.

Located in Jeddah Economic City, the tower is designed to rise more than 1 kilometer (3,281 feet), making it the first building in history to reach that height. Once completed, it will surpass Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which stands 829.8 meters (2,722 feet) tall.

Construction began in 2013, paused in 2018, and restarted in January 2025. Since work resumed, construction has accelerated, and the tower is expected to open in 2028.

The mixed-use skyscraper will include a luxury hotel, apartments, offices, and the world's highest observation deck. It was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the same firm behind the Burj Khalifa, and is being developed by Jeddah Economic Company (JEC).

Building a tower over 1 kilometer tall requires advanced engineering to withstand strong winds, pump concrete to extreme heights, and keep the structure stable.

US authorities are investigating after Marine One, carrying President Donald Trump, reportedly came within less than a mile of a passenger jet near Washington National Airport.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the reported loss of required separation between the two aircraft.

Kush Desai, a White House spokesman, told AFP “Marine One flights are piloted by some of the best aviators in the world, and at no point was the president in harm’s way.”

“The President was never in danger. We are continuing to review the incident and will implement any appropriate corrective actions based on our findings,” it added.

The case has drawn attention because the FAA tightened helicopter safety rules after the 2025 mid-air crash that killed 67 people.

A 7-year analysis of Tesla earnings calls found Elon Musk now spends nearly 50% of his speaking time discussing AI, robotaxis, Full Self-Driving, and the Optimus humanoid robot.

In 2022, those topics made up just 15-20% of Musk’s remarks, showing how dramatically Tesla’s messaging has shifted toward AI and robotics.

Despite the shift, Tesla delivered nearly 500,000 vehicles last quarter, and around 70% of its revenue still came from selling cars.

Musk argues Tesla should be valued as an AI company, saying investors who don’t believe it will solve autonomy “should not be an investor in the company.”

Meanwhile, other Tesla executives still spend more time discussing the automotive business, though their focus has also gradually shifted toward AI.

Donald Trump accused major U.S. oil companies of making “too much money” as the Iran war continues to push gasoline prices higher for American consumers.

U.S. gas prices have climbed more than 37% since the conflict began, making fuel costs a key political issue ahead of November’s midterm elections.

“I don’t like it. They’re making too much money, okay? Based on a shortage, they’re making too much money,” Trump told journalists at the White House.

ExxonMobil reported $14.5 billion in second-quarter profit, while Chevron earned $12.1 billion, with both benefiting from higher global energy prices.

Trump urged oil companies to lower retail fuel prices, saying they should “give some of that back to the public” instead of keeping huge profits.
