A group of taxi drivers and political activists appeared before the Pernem Court on Monday in connection with cases registered against them following protests held against the increase in parking charges at Mopa Airport in September.
The protesters had strongly opposed the revised parking rates, alleging that the hike adversely affected taxi operators across Goa. Following the agitation, police registered cases against several individuals who participated in the demonstrations.
Speaking to the media outside the court, taxi drivers reiterated their opposition to the parking fee hike and urged the government to reconsider its decision. They stated that they were prepared to face legal action if it meant fighting for their rights and protecting their livelihood.
The drivers also warned that the issue could have political repercussions, saying that if their concerns continue to be ignored, they would take it into account during the upcoming elections. They emphasized that their protest was aimed at safeguarding the interests of Goa's taxi community and ensuring fair treatment for local operators.
