Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math is not just a temple, it's the first Vaishnava Math of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community. Founded in 1475 AD by Shrimad Narayan Teertha Swamiji, who received Sanyasa Deeksha from Shree Ramachandra Teerth of Palimaru Math, Udupi.
It follows the Dvaita philosophy established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century. Headquartered in Partagali village on the banks of the Kushavati River in Canacona, South Goa, it became the spiritual sanctuary for the Saraswat community during centuries of migration.
This Math mirrors the history of Goans itself. During Portuguese rule, it was forced to shift from Margao-Benaulim to Bhatkal, Gokarna and finally to Partagali, yet it preserved rituals, Vedas and community identity.
The presiding deities are Lord Ramdev and Veera Vittala. For over 550 years, it has run an uninterrupted Guru Parampara, Sanskrit Pathashalas, Vedic schools and Annadaan traditions like the sevas you perform here.
In Nov 2025, it celebrated its Sardha Panchashatamanotsava - 550 years. On this occasion, PM Narendra Modi unveiled a 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram, said to be Asia's tallest, and inaugurated a Ramayana Theme Park inside the Math premises.
Today under its 24th pontiff, Shrimad Vidyadhish Teerth Swamiji, the Math is a living heritage - part ancient Gurukul, part modern spiritual centre. A place where you don't just take darshan, you become part of a 550-year-old tradition.
