The Redmi Note 9 Pro has just been launched in India, and its starting price of Rs. 12,999 is surprisingly low because Xiaomi has made a few very interesting decisions in terms of positioning and features. It isn't easy to stay ahead of the game, and the Redmi Note 9 Pro goes up against the formidable Realme 6 and Samsung M30s. Longtime fans of the series might be surprised at how Xiaomi has actually held back a little with this model, since expectations are always when a new generation of Redmi Note smartphones is announced.
Previous models, most notably the Redmi Note 8 Pro₹ 14,597 (Review), have been defined by their positioning above the standard Redmi series and the aspirational features they offer. While prices are still very reasonable, Xiaomi has made a habit of delivering things that people will be tempted to spend a little more money on, such large displays, high-capacity batteries, multiple cameras, premium styling, and class-leading specifications.
The tradeoff for that new low price is that the Redmi Note 9 Pro does not offer many of today's most buzzworthy features – a 90Hz display, extremely fast charging, and high-resolution cameras. This phone is more about core specifications and the overall usage experience. In an interesting shuffle, though, some of these features can be found in a new higher-tier device, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 are set to succeed the rather excellent Sony WH-1000XM3, and some killer leaked features could make these great headphones even better.
As one of the best wireless headphones you can buy, the Sony WH-1000XM3 impressed us with superb audio quality and class-leading active noise cancellation; the Sony WH-1000XM4 are expected to do the same. But Twitter user justplayinghard pulled apart the Sony Headphones Connect APK and uncovered some interesting smart features that the WH-1000XM4 are expected to have.
The Android Application Package teardown revealed that the Sony WH-1000XM4 could connect to two devices at once, allowing for the wearer to switch between them on the fly. It’s a small thing, but unpairing the WH-1000XM3 from one device and linking it to another can be a pain, and the next-generation wireless headphones could remove that hassle in one fell swoop.
There is one minor fly in the ointment in that, as the WH-1000XM4 are set to lose the ability to use the Hi-Res Audio LDAC codec when pairing to multiple devices. Though being able to swap between two devices easily might be worth the drop in audio fidelity in certain scenarios.
The APK teardown also revealed that the WH-1000XM4 will get a boost in audio upscaling by using an upscaler called “DSEE Extreme.” This is likely an upgrade of the DSEE HX upscaler in the Sony WH-1000XM3.
Another interesting feature the WH-1000XM4 are set to get is the "Smart Talking" function. According to XDA Developers, which confirmed justplayinghard’s findings with its own teardown, the feature will enable the ambient sound mode of the headphones to kick in automatically when a voice is detected. This means background sound will be filtered through the noise-cancelling headphones to allow the wearer to hear a conversion without removing the headphones.
The WH-1000XM3 can be configured to pick up some voices using ambient sound settings. Similarly, the right ear can be covered to temporarily disable active noise cancellation and let in background sounds. But this feature isn't always that intuitive, and the WH-1000XM4 could greatly improve upon it.

Exclusive Apple Glass Feature Leaks (feat. Max Weinbach), Apple's AR Glasses coming 2021 for $499! Apple Glass + LiDAR concept, all leaked features, iOS 13.5 jailbreak & more!
We know that Apple has been developing an AR headset since at least 2017, but outside of what we gathered from files hidden in iOS 13.1 late last year though, which included a sizable trove of information on the company’s upcoming AR device, there’s been little else to go on in terms of capability, price, name, launch date—you know, basically everything you’d want to know when it comes to a pretty big moment in consumer augmented reality. Now, known leaker Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech has delivered an exclusive report on all of those things and more.

In a video report (linked below), Prosser says that Apple’s AR headset will be named ‘Apple Glass’, and will be priced at $499, which doesn’t include the price of the actual corrective lenses. The report maintains that Apple is set to deliver a stereoscopic AR headset (dual displays) in a glasses form-factor which is said to rely on an iPhone for all data processing.

The McLaren 720S Spider presents yet another anomaly – a supercar with enough luggage space for a weekend away. In fact, it has 150 litres of storage in the front. And with the Retractable Hard Top up, there’s an additional 58 litres of storage under the tonneau. That’s best in class… and all in a car that does 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 2.9 seconds.

Popular wearable manufacturer Amazfit, who you might know for its affordable Apple Watch alternative the Amazfit Bip, has just added an intriguing new device to its portfolio.
Dubbed the Amazfit Ares, this smartwatch has just been announced in China. It only costs CNY499, which converts to roughly $70 / $60 / AU$110, and is therefore a supremely low priced sports smartwatch. Key features of the watch include a rugged design, 14 day battery life, built-in GPS and 70 sports modes.
In terms of design, the Amazfit Ares has a bulky square-shaped body made of polycarbonate materials and gives an impression of a rugged watch. Straps are, as in most sports-centric smartwatches, made of silicone. However, there are multiple versions listed on the Amazfit website including leather, rubber, and a Youth Edition Color wristband.
The touchscreen display of the watch measures 1.28-inches and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has a 200mAh battery that can charge up to full in two hours using the in-box charger. .
There's a basic watch mode that essentially just tells the time and allows the watch to last for 90 days from a single charge. Normal usage of the smartwatch will last for around 14 days.
Furthermore, the Amazfit Ares has a built-in Firstbeat algorithm, which is a key highlight of the watch, that tracks VO2 Max levels, recovery time, training load, and training effect. It seems, then, the Ares is good for people looking to build up their fitness or strength.

Huami has also added a Pai Health activity indicator that monitors heart-rate data periodically to give a view of the daily activity intensity. The Amazfit Ares is 5ATM water-resistant, meaning that it can be submerged down to 50 metres for about 10 minutes.
The Amazfit Ares is currently available in China, but we'd expect it to be available in the coming months in other countries. That may include the US, UK and Australia where Amazfit has previously released its devices, but we don't yet have any specific details.

Samsung has a hardened version of the Galaxy S20, but don’t reach for your credit card — it’s not what you were expecting, and you probably can’t get one. The company has introduced a Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition that, as the name suggests, is designed to meet the needs of the US military and federal government. It touts two layers of encryption strong enough to handle top secret data and connects to tactical radios and mission systems out of the box.
There are combat-related conveniences, too. One mode can turn the display on and off while you’re wearing night vision goggles, while a stealth mode turns off LTE and and mutes all RF broadcasts to eliminate even the slightest chance of eavesdropping. It’s also easy to unlock the phone in landscape mode so that you can quickly launch an app while the device is mounted to your chest.
This is otherwise a run-of-the-mill Galaxy S20 with a 6.2-inch, 1440p display, a Snapdragon 865 processor, 12GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, a 4,000mAh battery and the usual arrays of front and rear cameras. Although Samsung shows the Tactical Edition in a rugged casing, there’s no mention of the phone itself being rugged.

The S20 variant will be available in the third quarter of the year from “select IT channel partners.” If you get one, there’s a good chance it will have been issued to you as part of a bulk order. Still, this might be good news if you’re either a soldier eager for a tactical communications upgrade or an official who regularly handles classified data.
