In Nagaland’s Kiphire district, the remote village of Mimi in the Pungro sub-division preserves one of the state’s oldest and most fragile art forms: traditional hand pottery. Once a vibrant household craft passed down through generations of women, this centuries-old practice now faces the threat of fading away amid changing times and modern neglect.

Deputy CM T. R. Zeliang Says Tribalism Is the Biggest Barrier to Nagaland’s Progress

Oct 28: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang has identified tribalism as the greatest obstacle to the State’s progress and prosperity, urging the youth to serve as the antidote to this divisive mindset.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 22nd Biennial General Conference of the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) at St. Xavier College, Jalukie, Mr. Zeliang cautioned that with a small population, Nagaland cannot afford internal divisions based on tribe or community.

He called on the youth to rise above narrow identities and work together to ensure that all Nagas move forward as one united family.

War at Longleng ( )
As per the sources..
Tension erupted in Longleng, Nagaland, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, after a suspected hit-and-run involving an Assam Rifles vehicle killed two individuals. Local residents' anger escalated when a second convoy of Assam Rifles vehicles passed through the area, leading to an attack on the convoy.
Details of the incident
Initial incident: A convoy, reportedly belonging to the Assam Rifles, allegedly struck a motorcycle carrying two residents of Aoching village near Pongo village in the Longleng district. Both victims died at the scene, and the vehicle reportedly fled.
Victims' identities: The two victims have been identified and their bodies handed over to their families.
Public anger: After the morning incident, a convoy of five Assam Rifles vehicles was seen passing through Longleng town on its way toward Tuensang. Enraged locals, connecting the convoy to the earlier fatal incident, attacked and damaged the vehicles by pelting stones.
Response and Investigation: To de-escalate the situation, the Assam Rifles personnel reportedly left their vehicles and took shelter in a nearby camp. District administration, police, and tribal body representatives intervened to restore order, and an inquiry has been initiated.
Local context and aftermath
Preexisting tensions: This event occurred within a broader context of friction between security forces and local populations in northeastern India.
Conflicting accounts: Initial news reports stated the incident was a suspected hit-and-run. However, as public anger focused on the Assam Rifles, reports from local news sources like Morung Express specified that an Assam Rifles convoy was the suspected vehicle.
Demand for accountability: The crowd that intercepted the convoy was demanding that the driver and vehicle responsible for the deaths be handed over.
