An Oil-Immersed Power Transformer is one of the most critical components in high-voltage power transmission and distribution networks. Understanding its inner workings is essential for every engineer!
Here is a quick breakdown of its core systems as shown in the diagram:
🔹 1. Protection System:
Buchholz Relay: Detects gas accumulation or oil surges inside the tank to trigger alarms or trip signals during internal faults.
Pressure Relief Device (PRD): Instantly releases excessive internal pressure to prevent catastrophic tank damage.
🔹 2. Cooling & Insulation System:
Insulating Oil & Radiator Fins: Work together to dissipate heavy thermal loads and maintain optimal operating temperatures while providing high dielectric strength between internal parts.
Silica Gel Breather: Absorbs moisture from incoming air to keep the transformer oil completely dry.
🔹 3. Core & Winding Assembly:
Core: Provides a low-reluctance magnetic path for efficient flux flow.
