Inspection of NH-144 Conducted by SDM Surankote Ahead of shri Budha Amarnath ji Yatra
Surankote, July 18, 2025 —
On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Sh Vikas Kundal, IAS, and In view of the upcoming shri Budha Amarnath ji Yatra, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Surankote conducted a comprehensive inspection of National Highway 144, to ensure smooth and uninterrupted vehicular movement during the yatra period.
The inspection aimed at identifying and addressing traffic hotspots and potential bottlenecks along the route, with particular focus on stretches vulnerable to landslides, road damage, waterlogging, and congestion. All such critical points were thoroughly examined on-site.
The SDM was accompanied by key officials including the XENs of PWD (R&B), Imtiaz Mir, SDPO Surankote Ajaz Choudhary, officers from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), officers and officials of the SGI and officials from all other departments.The joint inspection team evaluated the condition of the road and associated infrastructure such as culverts, retaining walls, roadside drainage, and signage.
During the inspection, specific directions were passed to all concerned executing agencies to undertake immediate repair and restoration works wherever required. The SDM emphasized that all repairs and maintenance activities must be completed in a time-bound manner to ensure not only the smooth conduct of the Budha Amarnath Yatra but also to facilitate routine commuters and transport services.
The SDM reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing a safe, secure, and comfortable journey for the yatris and stressed on inter-departmental coordination to address any emergent issues during the pilgrimage period.
The local administration has also appealed to the public and road users to cooperate with executing agencies during the ongoing repair works and has assured that minimal inconvenience will be caused during the process.
