LG Manoj Sinha Issues Strong Warning Against Drug Nexus; Assures Strict Action Against Anyone Involved

Altaf Hussain

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has issued a strong and unequivocal warning against the growing menace of narcotics and reaffirmed the administrationโ€™s uncompromising commitment to eradicating the drug network from Jammu and Kashmir. In a firm statement reflecting the government's zero-tolerance approach, the Lieutenant Governor made it clear that no individual, irrespective of position or influence, will be spared if found involved in supporting or facilitating the drug ecosystem.

Addressing concerns over the spread of narcotics and its damaging impact on society, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the administration remains fully committed to dismantling every layer of the drug network and ensuring that strict legal action is taken against all those responsible for promoting or protecting such activities.

The Lieutenant Governor stated, โ€œToday I want to state unequivocally: whether an official or anyone in public life, if they are in any way connected to the drug network or lend it support, they will face strict legal consequences.โ€

Reiterating the administrationโ€™s resolve, he emphasized that the fight against narcotics is not merely a law enforcement challenge but a larger social responsibility aimed at safeguarding the future of youth and preserving the social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.

He further asserted that no individual occupying a position of authority or responsibility would be allowed to misuse their office or influence to shield illegal activities. Stressing transparency and accountability, the Lieutenant Governor conveyed a clear message that there would be no room for compromise in matters concerning public welfare and security.

In a particularly strong remark, he said, โ€œI assure the people that if even the slightest trace of this infection has seeped into our system, it will be mercilessly cut out without hesitation.โ€

The statement is being viewed as one of the administrationโ€™s strongest messages yet against the narcotics network and indicates a renewed push toward intensifying anti-drug efforts across the Union Territory. It also underscores the governmentโ€™s intention to ensure that the fight against drugs remains free from political influence, administrative interference, or institutional protection.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that protecting the younger generation from the devastating consequences of substance abuse remains one of the administrationโ€™s top priorities. He observed that drug addiction not only destroys individuals and families but also poses a serious threat to social stability and long-term development.

He further highlighted the importance of collective participation in the fight against drugs and called upon citizens, social organizations, educational institutions, and law enforcement agencies to work together to identify and eliminate the menace from society.

The administration has in recent years intensified anti-narcotics operations and awareness initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities repeatedly asserting that a comprehensive and coordinated strategy is being adopted to combat the issue at every level.

The Lieutenant Governorโ€™s statement has sent a strong message that accountability will prevail and that any person found supporting or facilitating drug-related activities, regardless of status or position, will face strict legal action under the law.

The administration reiterated its commitment to creating a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring a safer and healthier future for the people, particularly the youth of the region.

Altaf Hussain

Mankote, May 23 2026 : Acting on the directions of the Worthy Deputy Commissioner Poonch, the Tehsil Administration Mankote today conducted an extensive market checking and enforcement drive across various commercial establishments in the Mankote area to ensure strict adherence to government regulations, consumer protection norms, and fair trade practices, particularly in view of the upcoming Eid festivities, when market activity and consumer demand generally witness a significant increase.

The market inspection drive was conducted under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Mankote Mohd Iqbal and Tehsil Supply Officer Mankote Ayaz Ahmed, accompanied by a police team from Police Post Mankote. The initiative was undertaken to protect consumer interests, regulate market practices, and prevent any irregularities during the upcoming Eid season.

During the drive, the inspection team visited several establishments including grocery shops, vegetable outlets, chicken and mutton shops, and maize seed stores operating in the Mankote market area. Officials carried out a detailed inspection of rate lists, pricing mechanisms, stock availability, quality standards, and overall compliance with prescribed rules and regulations.

Special emphasis was laid on checking the mandatory display of updated rate lists and ensuring that traders were conducting business in accordance with government guidelines. Given the increased demand for essential commodities and food items during Eid, authorities stressed the importance of maintaining transparency and preventing overpricing or unfair trade practices.

During the inspection, certain shopkeepers were found violating established norms and failing to comply with mandatory regulations. Taking serious note of these violations, the administration imposed a cumulative fine of Rs. 2,100 against the defaulters under relevant legal provisions.

The officials also interacted with traders and stakeholders and issued detailed guidelines regarding market discipline and compliance measures. Shopkeepers were advised to display rate lists prominently, maintain quality standards, and ensure ethical business practices in the larger interest of consumers.

NCโ€™s Rejection of PDP Land Protection Bill Led to Todayโ€™s Sidhra Crisis: Advocate Fareed Choudhary

Altaf Hussain

Mendhar May 22 2026: PDP Youth leader and Advocate Fareed Choudhary has strongly condemned the recent demolition drive carried out in Jammuโ€™s Sidhra and adjoining areas, terming it an inhuman, anti-poor and insensitive action that has pushed economically weaker families into fear, uncertainty and distress. He stated that the ongoing developments have exposed the failure to protect vulnerable communities and raised serious concerns over decisions that, according to him, have directly impacted poor families across the region.

Addressing the media, Advocate Fareed Choudhary said that the unfortunate situation currently unfolding in Sidhra could have been prevented had the land protection proposal brought by the Peoples Democratic Party been accepted and implemented at the appropriate time. He alleged that the PDPโ€™s land protection bill, which was presented in the Assembly by senior PDP leader and MLA Waheed Parra, was blocked by the NC-led government, depriving thousands of poor and deserving families of legal protection and relief.

He stated that the bill was aimed at safeguarding the rights of families residing for years on small portions of Khaschari and state land, especially those occupying five or ten marlas and having no alternative means of shelter. According to him, the objective of the proposal was to protect poor families, including Gujjars, Bakerwals, labourers and other marginalized sections of society who have lived on such land for decades and built homes through their hard-earned savings.

Advocate Fareed Choudhary said that had the proposal received support and moved forward, many innocent families would not have faced the present uncertainty and emotional trauma. โ€œHad the NC government accepted the PDP land protection bill presented by Waheed Parra, the painful situation in Sidhra may never have occurred. Today poor and innocent people are paying the price of political decisions and administrative failures,โ€ he remarked.

He further said that demolishing houses of poor families who have spent their entire lives building modest homes for their children is not merely an administrative exercise but a matter directly linked to human dignity and social justice. He emphasized that no civilized administration should leave families homeless overnight without ensuring proper rehabilitation and protection.

Supporting the statement made by former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba M***i, Advocate Fareed Choudhary reiterated that the Peoples Democratic Party has always stood with poor, oppressed and marginalized communities. He said the party has consistently raised its voice for Gujjar, Bakerwal, labour and weaker sections and has remained committed to protecting their rights and dignity.

He expressed concern over what he described as selective action and questioned why economically weaker families often become the first targets while influential and powerful encroachers frequently escape strict scrutiny. According to him, such actions create a sense of discrimination and injustice among common people and weaken public confidence.

Advocate Fareed Choudhary stressed that governance should be based on compassion, justice and humanity rather than force and intimidation. He said governments and institutions must distinguish between influential land grabbers and poor families occupying small portions of land purely for shelter and survival.

Highlighting the humanitarian aspect of the issue, he stated that women, children and elderly citizens are among the worst affected by such demolition drives. He said many families are currently living under severe mental stress and uncertainty and require immediate assistance and support.

Advocate Fareed Choudhary urged the administration to immediately review the ongoing demolition drives and adopt a balanced, humane and people-friendly approach. He demanded proper rehabilitation, compensation and legal safeguards for all affected families and stressed that no family should be deprived of shelter without due consideration and relief measures.

He also appealed to the people to remain united and raise their voices peacefully and democratically for the protection of their rights and dignity.

Reaffirming his support for the affected families, Fareed Choudhary stated that the Peoples Democratic Party would continue to stand with every oppressed, helpless and marginalized individual and would continue its struggle for justice, dignity and protection of the rights of common people.

Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal Raises Strong Concerns Over Ongoing Demolition Drive, Calls for Protection of Tribal Rights in Jammu & Kashmir

Altaf Hussain

Mendhar, May 22: A detailed press conference was organised today at the Mendhar office of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal under the leadership of its President, Tazeem Choudhary, to address the ongoing demolition drive reportedly impacting Gujjar and Bakerwal communities across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The press conference witnessed participation from members of the organisation, community representatives, social activists, and local residents who voiced their concern regarding the situation faced by tribal families.

Addressing the media, the President and members of the organisation expressed deep concern over the demolition of houses, temporary shelters, livestock structures, and other establishments belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal families. They stated that the ongoing developments have created an atmosphere of fear, uncertainty, and distress among tribal communities, particularly among economically weaker and nomadic families whose livelihoods largely depend upon traditional practices and seasonal migration.

Speaking during the conference, representatives said that a large section of the Gujjar and Bakerwal population belongs to marginalized and underprivileged communities, and any action affecting their shelter and means of livelihood has severe humanitarian implications. They stressed that many tribal families have been residing in various areas for generations and have established deep social, cultural, and traditional links with those regions.

The organisation maintained that while administrative procedures and legal frameworks are important, implementation of any drive affecting tribal populations must be carried out with sensitivity and a humanitarian approach. They urged authorities to ensure that innocent and poor families do not suffer unnecessarily and that every case is reviewed with fairness and transparency.

Members of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal further appealed to the administration to conduct proper verification of land records and examine all relevant documents before initiating any action. They emphasized that tribal communities have unique historical and traditional patterns of habitation and movement, which require careful consideration under existing legal and constitutional safeguards.

The speakers also demanded that proper rehabilitation and resettlement mechanisms be put in place wherever families are displaced or affected. They stated that no family should be left homeless or deprived of basic necessities and security without suitable arrangements. According to the organisation, rehabilitation should be treated as a priority and should be undertaken in a manner that safeguards the dignity and rights of affected people.

During the interaction, community representatives highlighted that Gujjar and Bakerwal communities have played a significant role in preserving the social and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and have contributed immensely to society over the years. They said the identity, traditions, and livelihood patterns of tribal communities deserve recognition and protection.

The organisation also appealed to the government and concerned authorities to prevent any alleged harassment of tribal families and adopt a consultative approach to address the issue. They called for meaningful dialogue involving community leaders, tribal representatives, civil society members, and government authorities so that concerns can be addressed peacefully and amicably.

The speakers reiterated that any issue involving tribal communities should be handled through cooperation and discussion rather than actions that may create fear and uncertainty among vulnerable sections of society. They urged policymakers to uphold constitutional protections available to tribal populations and ensure that the rights and welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities remain safeguarded.

Concluding the press conference, the leadership of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal reaffirmed its commitment to standing with affected families and raising issues concerning the welfare, dignity, and constitutional rights of tribal communities. The organisation appealed for immediate intervention from higher authorities to ensure justice, humanitarian consideration, and a balanced resolution of the matter.

Altaf Hussain

Mankote, May 21:In a strongly worded address delivered during the retirement farewell ceremony of Mohammad Younis Khan, former MLA Late Sardar Rafiq Khanโ€™s son, Sardar Waseem Khan, expressed deep concern and anger over the recent eviction and demolition incident reported from the Sidra area, while also highlighting the severe shortage of teaching staff across Block Mankote and the wider Mendhar Constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Sardar Waseem Khan said that the recent incident in Sidra has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Gujjar and Bakarwal community, alleging that more than forty families were badly affected after their houses were reportedly dismantled during the eviction drive. He termed the incident unfortunate, painful and unacceptable, stating that such actions have created fear and insecurity among poor and marginalized communities.

Demanding accountability over the matter, Sardar Waseem Khan directly appealed to Honโ€™ble Cabinet Minister Javed Ahmed Rana to take moral responsibility and resign immediately. He stated that when poor families are suffering and losing their homes, the government cannot remain silent, and public representatives must answer before the people. He added that the people of the region are expecting justice, transparency and responsibility from those holding public office.

Sardar Waseem Khan further stated that the administration must immediately conduct a transparent inquiry into the entire matter and identify all officials involved in the eviction and demolition process. He demanded strict legal and departmental action against those responsible, saying that no officer should be allowed to misuse authority against poor and helpless families.

He also emphasized that if timely action is not taken and justice is denied to the affected families, the people of the region would be left with no option but to launch peaceful protests and come onto the roads to raise their voice democratically.

During his speech, Sardar Waseem Khan also raised the long-pending issue of staff shortage in government educational institutions across Mendhar Constituency, especially in Block Mankote. He stated that schools in far-flung and border areas are suffering badly due to the shortage of lecturers, teachers and other educational staff, which is directly affecting the future of students.

He said that despite repeated demands from the public and local communities, many schools continue to function with inadequate staff, creating serious challenges for students in receiving quality education. He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to immediately issue a fresh recruitment notification and fill all vacant posts in the education sector on priority basis.

According to him, the continuous negligence towards government schools is one of the major reasons why parents are increasingly shifting their children towards private educational institutions, putting additional financial burden on poor families living in rural and border areas.

Sardar Waseem Khan further stated that education should remain the governmentโ€™s top priority and that the youth of border areas deserve equal opportunities, proper infrastructure and sufficient teaching staff like any other part of the Union Territory.
