District Admin Poonch commemorates 150 Years of Vande Mataram with patriotic fervour

POONCH, NOVEMBER 7: The District Administration Poonch today organized a grand celebration to mark 150 years of the National Song Vande Mataram at the DGC Auditorium Hall.

The event was held in sync with the national programme led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who addressed the nation live from the Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi. Event was also streamed live from Abhinav Theatre, Jammu, where Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

In Poonch, the celebration witnessed the presence of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma; Senior Superintendent of Police, Shafket Hussain Bhat; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tahir Mustafa Malik; Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Mohd Sayeed and Assistant Commissioner (Development), Shakeel Ahmed, along with other officers from the civil and police administration.

Students from Government Degree College Poonch and other educational institutions of the district participated with great enthusiasm. They delivered insightful speeches highlighting the historical significance and patriotic essence of Vande Mataram and presented soulful renditions of patriotic songs to mark the occasion.

The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, filling the hall with patriotic zeal and national pride.

While addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tahir Mustafa Malik extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, educational institutions and officials for their active involvement and contribution in making the programme a grand success.

Poonch, November 5, 2025:
In a major action against proceeds of crime derived from online fraud, Police Station Surankote has attached property worth approximately ₹8.5 lakh under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

During the investigation of Case FIR No. 71/2025 U/S 319(2)/318(4)/336(3)/340(2)/3(5) BNS & 66(C)/66(D) IT Act, it was revealed that one Maruti Suzuki Brezza car (Registration No. JK02CQ-2851) had been purchased by the accused Sajid Khan S/O Mohd Sadiq R/O Drogain, Tehsil Surankote, from proceeds of crime generated through fraudulent activities involving cheating and impersonation using the Telegram application and Dream11 platform.

Acting on the directions of the competent authority and in accordance with legal provisions, the said vehicle has been attached/seized under Section 107 BNSS to prevent its alienation, transfer, or disposal. An attachment notice has also been affixed on the vehicle, cautioning the general public that no person shall purchase, lease, or create any third-party interest in the said property until further orders.

District Police Poonch, under the overall supervision of SSP Poonch Sh. Shafkat Hussain, JKPS, remains committed to identifying, restraining, and confiscating properties acquired through unlawful means in strict accordance with the law.

Drug Peddler Arrested; Banned Tramadol Tablets Recovered by Police

Poonch, November 6, 2025:
Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the district, Police Station Surankote achieved a major success by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a large quantity of banned psychotropic tablets from his possession.

Acting on specific information, a special naka was established by the police near Mirza Morh, Surankote. During checking and frisking, one suspicious person was intercepted, and upon personal search, 17 strips (170 tablets) of Gurdil (Tramadol) and 75 tablets of banned Tependaol were recovered from his possession.

In this connection, Case FIR No. 252/2025 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Surankote, and the accused has been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward links of the drug network involved in the supply of these contraband substances.

DC, SSP conduct security audit of Parnai Power Project in Surankote

POONCH, NOVEMBER 6: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Shafket Hussain Bhat conducted an extensive tour of Sub-Division Surankote to review security arrangements and inspect developmental works in the area.

During the visit, the officers carried out a security audit of the Parnai Power Project. They inspected the labour camps established in the vicinity and interacted with the workers and representatives of the executing agency to assess the security measures and living conditions at the site.

The DC and SSP directed the field officers to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, enhance surveillance and maintain a close vigil around all labour accommodations to prevent any untoward incident.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP visited development sites at Draba, Machaki and Mastan Dhara, where they reviewed the pace and quality of the work being executed. The officers emphasized the importance of timely completion of all projects while maintaining high standards of safety and quality workmanship.

They were accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Farooq Khan, SDPO, Tehsildar and other civil and police officers, who briefed the visiting officers about local issues and ongoing developmental initiatives in their respective jurisdictions.
