Deputy Commissioner visits flash-flood affected Qazi Mohra area, assures swift restoration measures

POONCH, JUNE 25: To assess the ground situation, Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal on Wednesday visited flashflood hit Qazi Mohra area (Ward No. 01) to assess the damages and evaluate ongoing flood prevention measures.

Accompanied by Additional Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Tehsildar Haveli, Executive Officer (EO) Municipality and other concerned officials, the DC undertook a strenuous uphill journey to inspect the most affected locations and residential areas.

The Deputy Commissioner took a comprehensive review of the damages caused to infrastructure and private property and issued directives for immediate action. He instructed the EO Municipality to thoroughly examine the existing watercourse in the area and implement remedial measures to minimize future flood risks.

The Tehsildar Haveli was directed to carry out a prompt damage assessment to both public and private properties. He was also asked to identify and clear any encroachments that may obstruct natural water flow or emergency restoration efforts.

Locals interacted with the Deputy Commissioner and apprised him of the challenges they are facing, including property damage and related concerns. The Deputy Commissioner assured the residents that restoration work will be initiated promptly and their grievances would be addressed on a priority basis.

While engaging with the residents, the DC also sought feedback and suggestions from them to help improve disaster preparedness and response in the future.

The visit underscores the district administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public, especially in disaster-prone areas.

SSP Poonch Holds Meeting with Shia Community Members Ahead of Muharram

Poonch, June 25, 2025:
In anticipation of the forthcoming holy month of Muharram, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Shri Shafket Hussain (JKPS), convened a key coordination meeting with prominent members of the Shia community today at the District Police Office, Poonch.

The meeting was attended by Additional SP Poonch, DySP Headquarters Poonch, other senior police officers, respected community elders, and religious leaders. The primary objective was to ensure the smooth, safe, and peaceful conduct of Muharram observances across the district.

During the session, detailed discussions were held on critical aspects such as security arrangements, traffic regulation, coordination for processions, installation of CCTV cameras, and deployment of adequate police personnel along the procession routes and sensitive locations.

The SSP attentively listened to the concerns and suggestions put forth by the community representatives. He assured the gathering that the District Police will provide full cooperation and necessary support for all religious activities during Muharram. He further instructed field officers to maintain close liaison with both the community leaders and the civil administration, ensuring all preparatory measures are taken well in advance.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining communal harmony, SSP Poonch reiterated that strict vigil will be maintained across the district, and any attempt to disrupt peace and brotherhood will be dealt with firmly. He also urged community members to report any suspicious or anti-social activity without delay.

The Shia community expressed gratitude to Poonch Police for their proactive and inclusive approach and assured their full support in maintaining peace, order, and mutual respect during the holy month.

Poonch Police remains committed to safeguarding religious freedoms while ensuring a secure and harmonious environment for all.
