Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu Organizes Chehlum Procession Commemorating Martyrs of Karbala

Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu organized a procession marking Chehlum, the 40th day of mourning for the martyrs of Karbala. A three-day mourning program was held from August 1 to August 3, addressed by Maulana Zaffar Mehdi Sahab of Nowgama Sadaat. A Shabih-e-Zuljina was also taken out from the house of Late Haji Rustam Ali Khan.

Prior to the procession, Maulana Zaffar Mehdi Sahab addressed a gathering at Peer Mitha Sofi Shah, where he spoke on the significance of the sacrifice made by Imam Hussain (a.s) and his 72 companions.

People from different faiths and regions of Jammu attended the majlis to pay tribute to the martyrs. Maulana Zaffar Mehdi Sahab passionately recounted the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions at Karbala, telling the gathering that the lessons of Karbala teach people to stand against oppression. His address drew connections between the values of Karbala and the challenges of today's world.

President of Anjuman-e-Imamia, Syed Amanat Ali Shah, said that Islam endures today because of the sacrifice (shahadat) of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his 72 companions, who gave everything for the sake of humanity and Islam. He noted that even after 1,400 years, people continue to observe Moharram with the same passion and devotion. Several clerics, in their sermons, said that the teachings of Karbala call on all communities to rise above ignorance and stand against those who commit violence and injustice around the world.

Sohail Kazmi, a senior journalist and member of the J&K Waqf Board, said the procession is a long-standing tradition in Jammu, drawing participants from every faith. He noted that a spirit of brotherhood was visible throughout the procession, reflected in the stalls set up along the route by members of different faiths and by local bazaar associations. He also expressed gratitude to the administration for its support throughout the event.

Prof. Sujat Khan, speaking to the media, said that Imam Hussain (a.s.) does not belong to any single community — his ideals have been embraced by prominent figures worldwide, many of whom reference and reflect on his legacy in their writings and speeches.

Syed Ayaz Naqvi, Joint Secretary of Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu, said the teachings of Imam Hussain (a.s.) inspire people to help the needy and the oppressed, regardless of religion. He also commended the administration for its assistance in maintaining discipline throughout the majlis.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Vice President Syed Afaq Hussain Kazmi thanked all the Azadaars who participated and maintained exemplary discipline throughout the procession. He also expressed gratitude to the district administration and to all media houses — print and electronic — for their support, along with special thanks to ALMSAJ, MEWSL, and Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plots.

Flood disaster in Poonch: High-level inquiry needed against officers involved in allowing illegal constructions in “Red Zone” areas
* Chief Minister’s directions ignored, Uttarakhand-type disaster again imminent
* The biggest Poonch administration fraud of the decade needs to be tackled strongly by the government

SALIL RAINA
(POONCH TODAY NEWS)
POONCH: On the 1st of August, 2013, “POONCH TODAY” published a story with the title “Poonch: Another Uttarakhand in the making. Unabated constructions along the river pose a threat to Poonch town; administration is in deep slumber. “After the publication of the story, the then administration termed the story an imaginary idea and a fake one. But after one year, the calculated prediction of “POONCH TODAY” came true as Poonch witnessed the worst ever flood in September 2014, cutting the link of Poonch to the rest of the country in addition to damaging property worth several crores. A number of people died in that horrifying flood. After that devastation, the then district administration, vide no. DMP/J/3247-57 dated 31-12-2014, declared the area a “Red Zone," banning all types of construction and repair/restoration of existing buildings along both banks of the Suran River in washed-away areas near the Sher-E-Kashmir bridge from the police line to the confluence of Betar Nullah. Despite this order, some people with questionable credentials started their operations in a silent way in the same state/private land area by indulging in hand-in-glove acts with the revenue department officials and started raising illegal structures. “POONCH TODAY” highlighted the matter time and again in the interest of public safety, but the poor response from the successive district administrations was a clear indication that officials of the revenue department were involved in scripting this scam. Following publication of regular reports by “POONCH TODAY” against illegal constructions in the “Red Zone," the then district administration again issued a notice on 27-10-2018 directing the concerned departments to submit the action taken report against illegal constructions. Despite issuing notice and conducting the videography of the entire area, the law violators continued to raise illegal structures by capturing natural springs, irrigation channels, PWD embankments, and a huge chunk of state/private land with the help of revenue authorities and built illegal structures. On the one hand, some people continued to raise illegal structures, but at the same time, one of the minority families was not allowed to construct their structure on their personal land, and it shows that the law of the land is different for the majority and minority in the “Red Zone." Only two DCs, namely M.H. Malik and Rahul Yadav (IAS), had shown some concern towards the “Red Zone” issue, while others reportedly supported the law violators. The failure of successive administrations was judged from the fact that a number of buildings have been constructed openly in front of culverts constructed for smooth passage of water in case of flood-related issues. A big portion of land on which a number of illegal constructions have taken place was state land and was planned for establishing a nursery/fruit mandi of the horticulture department near the S.K. Bridge. The government earlier got this land for the construction of the S.K. bridge, but some people, with the full support of the zone's revenue department officials, changed the revenue record multiple times in their favor and continued to dodge the public in general and the district administration in particular, claiming the land belonged to them. The said state land near the S.K. Bridge was purchased and sold multiple times through illegal means, and it's a matter of deep investigation for which a high-level inquiry is needed. On the one hand, the Poonch municipality many times said that the area falls under the BDO Poonch office, and the Poonch municipality has nothing to do with it. But CEO Poonch municipality, in a double-faced act, wrote a letter no. MC/P/2019/294-96 dated 08-05-2019 to DC Poonch demanding the transfer of state land for the construction of a bus stand in the same area, which was earlier banned for all types of construction by the district administration. The letter from the municipality was clear proof that some portion of land on both sides of the main road is state land, but on what basis was the land on other sides, which was also state land, allowed to be encroached upon by some people who later built illegal shops and buildings in complete mockery of the rules? Who allowed the construction of shops, private structures, and a bus stand in the "Red Zone" by throwing the taxpayers' money into the Poonch River? Who allowed the construction of the DDC Chairperson's office and quarters in the "Red Zone," which also suffered during the recent flood? Who allowed illegal mining from Buffliaz to Jhullas and the establishment of various illegal stone crushers near the riverbed areas? It is pertinent to mention here that after the September 2014 floods, the work on the protection bund was started, but the design of the bund was later changed by the concerned department. They also allowed the land grabbers to capture maximum space to raise their illegal structures. The then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who visited the site, gave direction for the construction of five new pillars to save the future, but some people, least caring about the future of Poonch City, forced the administration through a secret deal to construct only two pillars, thereby allowing them to raise their illegal structures. It's shocking that a few land grabbers have managed to dodge the entire Poonch administration and public for years with their mala fide intention of capturing state/private lands and building illegal structures in the “Red Zone’. It’s a high-level fraud of decades in which various departments of the Poonch administration have been involved. Why was no effort made from the administration to retrieve the state land from the clutches of some people"? Why was no action taken against them for raising illegal constructions on state/private lands in addition to capturing the irrigation canal and embankment in the same “Red Zone” area? From S.K. Bridge to Star Hotel, a number of illegal structures have been built in an area that was declared a “red zone" by the administration, and some illegal structures are still under construction near the main road with the full indirect support of the administration. Reportedly, some whistleblowers in media and a few officers grabbed this opportunity with folded hands and earned a lot from the land grabbers by threatening to highlight the issue of their illegal constructions. The question arises: were the offices of the ACR, Tehsildar Haveli, BDO Poonch, Poonch Municipality, and the executive engineer of the PWD, Jal Shakti, and irrigation departments involved in this high-profile scam in the “Red Zone"? Despite openly capturing irrigation canals by some people and later constructing illegal shops on them, the concerned department failed to take action against them. The PWD department also failed to retrieve its embankment from the clutches of land grabbers. The PDD and Jal Shakti departments have spent crores of rupees of taxpayers' money in the “Red Zone” area by providing electricity and water connections, for which a high-level inquiry is needed against the concerned executive engineers. Who issued NOCs to all structures constructed illegally? To blackmail and dodge the administration, a private building initially constructed in the "Red Zone" for educational purposes was deliberately given the shape of a pious makeup as a shelter for all illegal constructions. Look at the fraud of Poonch Municipality. While replying to an RTI activist vide no. MC/P/2022/372-73 dated 12-05-2022, the Poonch municipality said that the area near S.K. Bridge doesn’t fall within the jurisdiction of Municipal Council Poonch and no site plan was sanctioned by Poonch Municipality near the riverbed area, but on what basis did the officers of the Poonch municipality, vide no. MC/P/2019/294-96 dated 08-05-2019, seek the transfer of state land from DC Poonch for the construction of a new bus stand in the “Red Zone"? It clearly shows that the area falls within the limits of Poonch municipality; that’s why the Poonch municipality sought the transfer of land. The district administration, vide its no. DCP/ARA/294-305 dated 19-03-2015, notified a number of Khasra nos. in the Red Zone in village Kanyuian (92 khasra nos. having a total area of 1,222 kanals and 9 marlas) and Sher-Khas (192 khasra nos. having a total area of 2673 kanals and 3 marlas) and banned all types of constructions in those Khasra nos., but who cares, as huge illegal constructions have taken place in structures of those Khasra nos.? Exclusive documents are available with “POONCH TODAY," which shows that how this biggest blunder of the decade was allowed to take place by some officials of the administration by supporting the land grabbers. Near the S.K. bridge, the land grabbers have also encroached on Kahcharai land, on which a huge number of illegal shops and residential structures have been built with the direct involvement of the revenue department, and such an open fraud shows that only illegal money matters in the revenue department and not rules. Purely in the public interest and keeping in view the safety of Poonch town, “POONCH TODAY” highlighted the matter a number of times, but shockingly, many social media persons also highlighted the matter by getting the ideas from the contents of “POONCH TODAY” stories and later managed to settle down financially with the land grabbers, but “POONCH TODAY," which is known for its professional journalism, did not buckle under any pressure and continued to expose the land grabber-administration nexus for years. The recent Bela colony tragedy of Rajouri; the washing away of a service station near the S.K. bridge area; and the disaster in various places of the Poonch district, in which twenty-two people lost their precious lives in Loran (Mandi), the Murrah area of Surankote, and other areas, the Poonch administration needs to learn a strong lesson, as land grabbers are still doing their illegal construction activities at various places, right from the Star Hotel to the S.K. bridge area, and it clearly shows that the district administration, particularly the revenue department, is openly involved in this high-level fraud. Just a few days of heavy rains and the massive damage it causes show that Poonch is heading for another "Uttarakhand"-type disaster because the administration has continuously allowed the illegal constructions in the “Red Zone." More than two years ago, a former IAS DC, in a purely visionless decision, by throwing taxpayers' money into the Poonch River, allowed the construction of a jogger park on the unfit protection bund in the “Red Zone” area just to protect the land grabbers, and now the said protection bund is also under threat from future floods. Although the officials of the district administration visited the protection bund and accepted the fact that the bund is under threat and appropriate measures were taken to protect it, it seems to be a fruitless exercise. Going by the past response to various disasters, it's an indication that a few bureaucrats posted at Poonch were short of vision and were also involved in this fraud. A high-level inquiry is needed against those officers who allowed these illegal constructions in the “Red Zone” near the Poonch River and in other riverbed areas of the Poonch District, who allowed illegal mining from the Buffliaz to Jhulas rivers, and who allowed the establishment of illegal stone crushers and hot mixer plants near the riverbed areas. The inquiry must detect how the revenue records of state land near S.K. Bridge were changed in a haphazard manner in favor of land grabbers, as there are reports that BDO Poonch approved site plans of many houses by taking huge sums of money from the land grabbers. Due to the mushrooming of large-scale illegal constructions in the “Red Zone", the existence of Poonch town is under grave threat. It's high time for the government to intervene by ordering a high-level inquiry into the issue, or the continued menace of illegal constructions and illegal mining in riverbed areas will become a cause for a big "Uttarakhand"-type disaster again in Poonch City.

Targeting Sanatan: Christ School Degwar comes under the scanner over its draconian directions, raising eyebrows on the intentions of its management
* Huge protests rock Poonch. Will the education minister, Sakina Ittoo, act?
SALIL RAINA
(POONCH TODAY NEWS)
POONCH: It’s a well-established fact that targeting Sanatan across the country has become a fashion of anti-nationals and various missionary bodies in the name of freedom of expression and questionable secularism. Day in and day out, hundreds of examples come from different parts of the country in which Sanatan is being targeted by all the available means by the anti-nationals and missionary forces, but it's the impact of the centuries-old philosophy of Sanatan that never allowed any Sanatani to adopt unlawful activities to show their anger. Rather, Sanatanis are always seen showing their concerns in a peaceful manner within the ambit of the constitution despite being the 80% majority community of the country because they believe in the constitution before their religion. The missionary forces cannot be trusted going by their past track record, and the latest conspiracy of such forces is the horrifying state of affairs in several states, especially in Punjab state, where huge conversion has taken place silently, which has given a huge dent to the identity and culture of real Punjab. This is among the various other reasons that the union government is keen to amend the FCRA bill to give a big jerk to the funding of anti-national forces, including the missionaries whose only mission is to destabilise the nation. Meanwhile, the hate for Sanatan unfortunately has reached the Poonch district due to a highly condemnable act of Christ School, Poonch, targeting Sanatanis, which has ignited the situation in Poonch City. Countering the unfortunate situation, the S.D. Sabha, VHP, and various nationalist youth bodies have lodged a strong protest against the Christ School Degwar over its anti-Sanatan act and have demanded an FIR against its principal. The S.D. Sabha members alleged that it has been proved that the missionaries are working against the Sanatan, and the recent act of Christ School, Degwar, is one such example. It is important to mention here that the Christ School, Poonch, has played a big part in imparting education to the students of Poonch over the years and has produced brilliant pupils who have carved a niche for themselves in different areas of life. The school remained among the top educational institutions of the Poonch and won various laurels for its educational and co-curricular activities. Successive principals of the institutions and staff also earned huge respect for themselves and for the institution itself. But the latest draconian direction mentioned in the diary of the institution, targeting Sanatan, has raised serious eyebrows at the questionable intentions of its current management. The question arises: if uniform is the only issue and not religious identity, then why do the principal and sisters wear their religious dress and other religious identities in front of students? Is this not a double standard? Although a proper uniform and strict discipline are a must for any educational institution in which students belonging to different faiths learn and shine accordingly after completing their education. The uniform clearly gives an impression of unity among all and is considered a disciplined act. But only giving direction to one faith in bold letters that “Wearing mehndi, bindi, tika, or tilak on the forehead is not permitted on the school premises for both boys and girls" raised a big question mark on the hidden intentions of the management of Christ School Degwar. What is the fun of highlighting this one underlined sentence in bold letters, as the subject mostly belongs to Sanatan only? Why did the management fail to mention other acts of commonly seen uniform indiscipline in the directions? It's a matter of deep investigation for the intelligence agencies to detect the hidden plan of this principal. It is pertinent to mention here that in various private and government educational institutions of the Poonch district, open violation of uniform protocol is commonly seen as personal preference is being given importance over a uniform identity, but not a single voice has emerged against this discrimination for years among different sections of the students. In other schools of the district as well, open violation of uniform protocol is seen commonly. But the recent act of Christ School, Degwar, with its draconian direction targeting Sanatan, has started a huge debate over the intentions of its current management. Christ School Poonch is considered an elite and reputed educational institution of the district, but has the recent act of its management demolished the reputation of this elite institution with such draconian acts? Such illogical acts targeting any faith on the part of the management were never seen from other private elite educational institutions of Poonch, like Nanak Academy, Sian School, Nagbani, and a few others. There are a number of private educational institutions in Poonch City also being run by big names where open violation of uniform protocol is seen, but the concerned education department never acted against them. The Education Minister of the J&K UT, Sakina Ittoo, always says that the government has strengthened the education scenario in the J&K UT, focusing on the overall developments of the students, but such acts of illogical mindset on the part of Christ School Degwar, targeting the psyche of students of a particular faith in bold and underlined sentences, show that the intentions of its current management seem to be questionable, for which a high-level inquiry is needed from the top brass of the Education Department. Will the education minister Sakina Ittoo act against the management of Christ School Degwar? If the reputed educational institutions like Christ School start behaving in an irresponsible and questionable manner with students and staff through draconian orders, then the future of the students is not safe in the hands of the management of such an institution. It's time for the education minister of J&K UT, Sakina Ittoo, and Deputy Commissioner Poonch to order a high-level inquiry into the matter. Moreover, the deputy commissioner also needs to form a high-level committee to see all the government and private educational institutions where open violation of uniform protocol is going on, as a common identity is a must for all students rather than different identities, to prepare bright students for the future who will play a big role for the nation in their different capacities. If the students start facing discrimination from the poor management of such an institution due to their visionless and questionable intentions, then the educational scenario of the district definitely needs an overhauling. The S.D. Sabha and its sister organisations have strongly condemned this act of Christ School Degwar and demanded a strong punishment for its principal. In a more shocking state of affairs, the Poonch police, without conducting any investigation, have accepted the written statement of the principal, which completely shows an act of partial approach. In the past one and half years, several incidents of internal security issues had taken place in different places of the district where very sensitive anti-national slogans were raised by the forces inimical to peace, but the Poonch police were seen adopting favorable yardsticks for them and a questionable approach against the nationalist forces. Even the police officials were also seen taking strict action on some minor social media posts in the phone calls of some powerful forces that always worked against the national interest, but on the major security-related issues, the intentions of Ponch police always remained under a big question mark as far as coming up to the expectations of the national interest forces. So, this double standard of Poonch police also lowered the morale of the nationalist forces during the last one and a half years. Meanwhile, the Christ School of Degwar has also issued an apology statement, but the contents of the statement have indirectly justified the act. But after issuing the statement, the principal again went to the school and started distributing the same controversial diaries against it, and it shows that he is a part of a big conspiracy in the district to disturb the peace, for which a high-level inquiry is needed. Up to the time of filing this report, the youth of Poonch were seen lodging huge protests demanding an FIR against the principal. “It's the duty of the union government to bring in legislation for protecting the respect, culture, and identity of Sanatan across the country, as some anti-nationals and missionaries have taken everything for granted who are earning their bread and butter from foreign funding and are working overtime against the nation. Our patience has a limit," says a visibly upset young Sanatani while talking to “POONCH TODAY” on the issue of Christ School Degwar.

Poonch on “Ram Bharose”: After witnessing tragedies multiple times, it's time for DC Poonch Ashok Sharma to prepare a complete disaster management plan for the future
* “Tanki Bathroom” Poonch leadership fails completely
SALIL RAINA
(POONCH TODAY NEWS)
POONCH: During the last two decades, the border district of Poonch witnessed the worst tragedies in the shape of the October 2005 earthquake, September 2014 floods, Operation Sindoor in May 2025, and now the latest trailer of floods in Poonch and Rajouri districts, which played havoc. As a result, 22 innocent people lost their lives in the Poonch district. Two families in the Loran and Murrah areas of the Poonch district faced their worst nightmare as maximum members of the families died and some were missing. Near the S.K. Bridge, a car service centre was washed away, which was built near the riverbed by capturing an area of the river. The district witnessed a total blackout due to no power supply; as a result, the water supply remained badly affected. Many people wrote on the social media accounts that they were experiencing stone-age days. It's most unfortunate that even after witnessing regular tragedies, the successive district administrations failed to make a disaster management plan for the people. Last year during Operation Sindoor, when the Poonch city witnessed its worst tragedy of the last seven decades, there was no administration on the ground as people were seen running barefoot out of the district to save their lives. There was no coordination between the army, police, and the civil administration; as a result, the people of Poonch witnessed their worst time. Now the recent flood has exposed that the JKPDC and Jal Shakti department never made alternate arrangements for such tough situations. Why was no effort made to plan another power line for Poonch City? Why did the officers of Jal Shakti never press for an alternate generator set to ensure a smooth water supply to the people during the hours of crisis? Crores of rupees have been swindled in JKPDC and Jal Shakti departments over the years under different schemes for which a high-level inquiry is needed, but the concerned departments failed to plan alternate arrangements for Poonch. Imagine what would happen if the Poonch district witnessed a war-like situation or terrorist attack or any kind of natural disaster. Who will support the people of Poonch, considering past experiences? Where would the people of Poonch go in case of any eventuality, as the road from Kalai to Manjakote is in extremely bad condition? The yatris coming to Poonch during the coming Shri Budha Amarnath yatra are bound to face huge inconvenience due to the poor condition of the road from Manjakote to Kalai. Unfortunately, the Poonch leadership also failed to plan something big for Poonch over the years. The visionless “Tanki Bathroom” Poonch leadership belonging to all the political parties like NC, PDP, Congress, BJP, and others only befool the people for vote bank politics, as all of them failed brazenly in coming up to the expectations of the people of the Poonch District. They never worked for any big developmental plan over the years, as the main motto of most of them remained to earn commissions only and to dodge the innocent people with hollow speeches. It's most unfortunate that even in this 21st century, Poonch people were forced to remain without power and water supply for six days, and the credit for this goes to the failed planning of the successive Poonch administrations and visionless "tanki bathroom” Poonch leadership over the years. Although the JKPDC officials worked in difficult circumstances to restore the power supply, which is praiseworthy, the question arises why the department never made an alternate plan for Poonch, as the border district is highly sensitive from an internal and external security point of view. As the 132 kV power supply has been restored through erecting a temporary ERS tower, the question arises: when will the department build a new tower for ensuring a smooth power supply to the district? The most unfortunate part is that the Jal Shakti department was given mostly inefficient executive engineers, and it's the people of Poonch who suffered a lot due to the inefficiencies of the Jal Shakti department officials. Mostly they have only one excuse: “Power off hai" or “Motor kharab hai." The government must initiate a high-level inquiry into the funds under different schemes given to the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Jal Shakti, and JKPDC Poonch for the last ten years to know how much money has been swallowed by tainted officials through passing fake bills. The repeated natural and man-made disasters have shown that the people of Poonch are only on Ram Bharose, as it has been proved again that the successive district administrations never made a complete disaster management plan. However, despite the significant efforts of DC Poonch Ashok Sharma and his team by visiting various far-flung areas to address the concerns of the affected families, he could not do more because some of his predecessors were responsible for the damages that Poonch has been facing due to poor developmental planning related to flood zones across the district. Meanwhile, it's high time for the deputy commissioner, Ashok Sharma, unlike some of his poor predecessors, to make a complete disaster plan for the future covering all the important areas of health, fire, water, warlike situations, power, road connectivity, and others. The district has already suffered on various accounts for years during times of emergency due to the poor planning of successive administrations, but it's time for the present administration to learn from past mistakes and make a complete disaster management plan for the future because the district is highly sensitive to internal and external security concerns and natural calamities.
