House Burnt to Ashes in Sedow, Shopian Dilapidated Road a Major Obstacle to Relief Efforts.

Faiza Yousuf

Shopian - A tragic incident occurred last night in Sedow village of Shopian district, where a residential house was suddenly engulfed in a massive fire. Local residents made strenuous efforts to control the fire on their own, but the Fire and Emergency Services teams could not reach the scene on time due to the dilapidated and narrow road, resulting in the complete destruction of the house.

The incident took place late at night when a house in Sedow village suddenly caught fire. The intensity of the blaze was so great that it quickly consumed the entire house. Seeing the flames and the thick cloud of smoke, locals immediately gathered at the spot and began their own attempts to extinguish the fire. People started fetching water using buckets and other containers and pouring it onto the house, which somewhat reduced the fire's intensity, but they could not bring it completely under control.
Upon receiving the information, the vehicles of the Fire and Emergency Services immediately set off. Unfortunately, the poor condition and narrowness of the road leading to the fire location became the biggest obstacle in their way. According to officials, it became impossible for them to drive the heavy vehicles up to the house because the road was not only broken and damaged but also not wide enough for the fire tender to pass through easily. The result of this delay was that by the time the fire brigade teams somehow managed to reach near the affected spot, the house had already suffered complete damage and was entirely burnt to ashes.

The homeowner and local residents expressed their anger towards the authorities, stating that if the roads in the area had been in good condition, the relief operations could have been conducted on time and perhaps the house could have been saved from complete destruction.

The local administration should give immediate attention to the basic infrastructure of the village and include the repair and widening of roads as a top priority to ensure timely relief operations during emergencies. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
