Kashmirโ€™s โ€˜Newtonโ€™ introduces all-weather-resistant Kangโ€™er with advanced features

Innovator Mohammad Ismail Mir laments lack of appreciation by govt despite recognition from Harvard Medical School

Jahangeer Ganaie

Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNO): A renowned Kashmiri innovator, often hailed as the "Newton" of the valley for his numerous inventions, has now introduced an all-weather-resistant Kangโ€™er by incorporating advanced features in the traditional firepot.

Mohammad Ismail Mir, hailing from Watapora village of north Kashmirโ€™s Bandipora district, has already showcased his inventive prowess with creations like an automatic ventilator, automatic disinfectant spray, and more.

In an interview with the news agencyโ€”Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ismail said he had a passion for innovation since childhood. In 1976, I started a radio station with a range of approximately three kilometres.

Though he completed his education up to the 12th grade, Ismail has always cherished his enthusiasm for technological inventions.

In 1983, after reading a booklet explaining the theory and parts required for innovation, I crafted a remote-controlled car, he said.

Discussing his latest innovation, Mir said that the modified Kangโ€™er can be powered by water, electricity and charcoal, which serves the dual purpose of heating in winter and cooling in summer.

He said the idea was presented to the authorities of science and technology in 2022, and after 4-5 months of dedicated work, the enhanced Kangโ€™er was ready.

This Kangโ€™er, despite its metallic structure, is unbreakable and has safety measures to prevent skin burns, he said, adding that it also functions as a water bottle and has additional features such as electricity generation and fire alerts in the vicinity.

โ€œI can work on any idea if provided with the necessary materials,โ€ Ismail said. He claimed that many of the innovations by present-day innovators in Kashmir were already accomplished by him decades ago.

When asked about his goals, Mir said his primary aim is to support the people in any way possible. His favourite creation to date is the oxygen concentrator developed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Highlighting the significance of the Kangโ€™er in Kashmiri culture, Ismail said that by introducing such innovative Kangโ€™ers, he aims to preserve this cultural element. He has urged the government to involve registered potters and artisans to produce these Kangโ€™ers on a large scale for the benefit of the public.

Despite his notable inventions, including the oxygen concentrator and automatic disinfectant spray that garnered recognition from the Harvard Medical School last year, Ismail lamented the lack of appreciation from the government at any level so farโ€”(KNO)

SHA Refutes News Regarding Denial of PMJAY Benefits to Patients Needing Thrombolysis At SMHS

Jammu, December 23:(GNS) State Health Agency on Saturday Refuted the news report appeared in a leading Jammu Based Newspaper on 23-12-2023, titled โ€œPatients needing thrombolysis denied PMJAY benefits at SMHSโ€, State Health Agency, J&K, and termed the claim as half-researched and inaccurate.

In a handout to GNS, the SHA clarified that a package namely Systemic Thrombolysis with the code MC020A is available for thrombolysis in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) under Health Benefit Package (HBP) 2.2 of AB PM-JAY and AB PM-JAY SEHAT according to the existing guidelines.

According to spokesman however, the package has some prerequisites which are mandatory for booking the same under the scheme. As per HBP 2.2 issued by National Health Authority (NHA), this package is categorized as a regular package and not a day-care procedure, with an average length of stay of 3 days necessary for processing the same.

Therefore, adhering to the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) of NHA, if the package is blocked for patients who require thrombolysis, the patient must be admitted for a minimum duration of 24 hours in the hospital, he said.

Contrary to the article's claim, the hospital authorities have never stopped AB-PMJAY-SEHAT benefits for patients in need of thrombolysis and who were admitted for at least 24 hours, he said.

Till date 625 cases worth Rs. 1 Cr pertaining to System Thrombolysis package have been processed under AB PM-JAY & AB PM JAY SEHAT in the UT of J&K out of which 587 cases have been processed in SMHS hospital alone. This clearly negates the statement that there is denial of the said treatment under scheme provided all the STGs are followed by the hospitals.
To address any potential confusion, State Health Agency (SHA) Jammu & Kashmir has proactively sought clarification from the National Health Authority regarding the inclusion of thrombolysis package as a day-care procedure, he said.

In conclusion, the assertion that AB-PMJAY-SEHAT benefits are denied to patients requiring thrombolysis at SMHS Hospital is inaccurate. The hospital continues to provide necessary care within the framework of established guidelines. Any further updates or clarifications from the NHA will be promptly communicated to ensure seamless patient care under the scheme, reads the statement.(GNS)
