A biker was allegedly dragged for nearly half a kilometre after being hit by a speeding Uber Black vehicle on Mira Road in Thane district, Maharashtra.

According to the initial police investigation, the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and hit the motorbike. A viral video reportedly shows the car continuing to move despite the biker and motorcycle allegedly being trapped under the vehicle's front wheel.

The driver was initially suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, but a medical examination reportedly ruled out intoxication. Police said the driver was sleep-deprived and had fallen asleep while driving.

The accused has been identified as Adil Taslim Ansari, who was reportedly driving a Toyota Highlander (MH 01 FE 5919) registered with Uber and operating under its premium Uber Black category.

A 20-year-old second-year student of IIT Bombay was found dead in his hostel room on Tuesday night, the deceased has been identified as Sohil Rajkumar Sangwan, a second-year Material Science student from Pilani, Rajasthan, who was staying at a hostel on the IIT Bombay campus in Powai.

According to police officials, an examination of his mobile phone revealed chats indicating that he had reportedly been facing family-related issues and was also going through a difficult phase in a personal relationship. Investigators are analysing his mobile phone and other electronic devices to determine whether any additional factors may have contributed to the suspected su***de.

An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at Powai Police Station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
