PUNE: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray had visited the Government Polytechnic College on Ganeshkhind Road in Pune to meet professors over various issues raised by students. During the visit, a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed on a wall in a professor’s office was removed. The incident also led to allegations of a ruckus at the office.

A case has been registered against Amit Thackeray and 25 others at Chaturshringi police station in connection with the incident. MNS chief Raj Thackeray has now reacted to the controversy.

Amit Thackeray had objected to the placement of Modi’s photograph next to a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and asked for it to be removed.

Speaking at a meeting of MNS office-bearers in Thane, Raj Thackeray said, “There was a controversy over removing Modi’s photograph when Amit had gone to Pune. No one else can be placed in the same line as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule.”

With this statement, Raj Thackeray explained the stance behind Amit Thackeray’s action.

Pune: Majestique Nirman LLP has come under serious scrutiny after Maharashtra Legislative Council member Amit Ganpat Gorkhe raised allegations over the grant of an Occupancy Certificate for a project measuring approximately 50,452.84 sq m, despite what he claims were missing environmental and pollution-control approvals.

In a detailed complaint addressed to the Pune Municipal Commissioner, Gorkhe has sought a high-level and independent investigation into how the Occupancy Certificate was granted, who verified the mandatory documents and whether officials involved in the approval process followed the law.

At the centre of the controversy is a written clarification reportedly issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s City Engineer on June 22, 2026. According to Gorkhe’s complaint, the developer or architect had allegedly not submitted certain required approvals and documents connected with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and the Environment Department, including documents relating to Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate.

Yet, the project was allegedly granted a full Occupancy Certificate for approximately 50,452.84 sq m, prompting Gorkhe to question the legality and integrity of the entire approval process.

The complaint effectively raises a blunt question for the civic administration: If the mandatory environmental paperwork was incomplete, who cleared the project for occupation, and on what basis?

Gorkhe has demanded scrutiny of all documents allegedly submitted by Majestique Nirman LLP during the Occupancy Certificate process.

He has sought verification of whether any incorrect, incomplete, misleading or allegedly fabricated information was used to obtain permissions.

If such wrongdoing is established during the inquiry, he has demanded criminal proceedings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and other applicable laws.

NAGPUR: Political exchanges over the investigation into former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s plane crash continue, with NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule now saying she will not comment further on the issue.

Sule had earlier questioned why an FIR had not been registered in connection with the crash. She had pointed out that cases in other incidents are registered promptly, while several months had passed since Ajit Pawar’s plane crash without an FIR being filed.

Sule’s remarks drew a response from Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, who said the Ajit Pawar plane crash should not be politicised.

Speaking to the media in Nagpur on Sunday (September 6), Sule made her position clear. “I will not speak about Ajit Pawar’s plane crash anymore,” she said. She also appealed, “I say this with folded hands, I will not speak about Ajit Pawar’s accident anymore.”

Sule’s statement comes after Sunetra Pawar’s remarks on the political debate surrounding the crash investigation.

Hinjwadi: IT employees and local residents took to the streets on Sunday (September 6) to draw the government’s attention to the poor condition of roads, traffic congestion and inadequate infrastructure in Hinjwadi, Maan and Marunji. The march began from Infosys Circle in Phase 1 of Hinjewadi.

A large number of IT employees, local residents, representatives of various social organisations and citizens participated in the protest. The protesters highlighted the daily difficulties faced by residents and IT professionals due to severe traffic congestion, poor road conditions and inadequate civic infrastructure in the rapidly developing area.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray also joined the march and extended his support to the protesters.

Pune’s growing traffic congestion has become an increasingly serious issue, drawing criticism of both the local administration and the state government. However, the state government has undertaken comprehensive planning to improve the city’s transport infrastructure. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed confidence that within the next three to four years, Pune will emerge as India’s fastest-mobility city.

Fadnavis said that a detailed plan is being implemented to make Pune the country’s fastest-mobility city. Several major infrastructure projects are underway to strengthen the city’s transport network, including an outer ring road, an inner ring road, underground routes and high-capacity corridors. While work on some projects is already in progress, efforts are underway to accelerate the remaining projects.

Alongside these initiatives, Pune’s metro network is being rapidly expanded, while the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is also being strengthened to improve public transport. These combined efforts are expected to significantly enhance mobility across Pune over the next three to four years, helping transform the city into one of India’s leading urban mobility centres, Fadnavis said.

Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday spoke to the family of the minor girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered in Pimpalwadi in Junnar taluka. Shinde assured the family that the accused would be tried in a fast-track court and efforts would be made to secure the death penalty. He also said directions would be issued to complete the investigation expeditiously and file the chargesheet at the earliest.

Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed police to examine allegations that money was distributed to social media influencers and others in connection with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Pune.

Fadnavis also alleged that a controversy was deliberately created ahead of the event to generate publicity, comparing it to controversies sometimes created before the release of a film to attract attention.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on Gandhi’s Pune programme, claiming that such events were no longer spontaneous interactions with students but were being managed as organised events.
He alleged that a controversy was created before the programme and then used to generate publicity around it.

Referring to Friday’s incident at COEP Technological University, Fadnavis said police had been asked to closely examine the sequence of events and investigate whether the controversy was pre-planned.

The incident at COEP had led to a confrontation involving persons associated with the Congress and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ahead of Gandhi’s programme. Fadnavis said the entire episode should be examined carefully by police in the context of the subsequent political developments.
