A massive protest was held outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday as residents voiced their anger over the city's ongoing problem of contaminated and irregular water supply. Demonstrators gathered at the PMC headquarters, demanding immediate action against the supply of yellowish, muddy and unsafe drinking water in several parts of Pune. In a surprising case from Pune, Lashkar Police have exposed a 25-year-old woman, Samina Asif Inamdar aka Samina Ayub Pathan, who allegedly impersonated a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) by wearing a remarkably authentic police uniform to gain preferential treatment and quicker appointments at medical clinics. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Bhajibhakare, the woman used the uniform to create the impression that she was a serving police officer, hoping to receive special attention and avoid waiting periods. Pune residents may soon have to brace for water cuts as the city's available drinking water reserves continue to shrink. Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Monday said that only 3 TMC of water remains available for drinking purposes, making water rationing increasingly unavoidable.

Addressing a press conference, Nagpure said the civic administration has been given two days to submit a detailed report on the city's water situation. Based on the findings, a final decision on water cuts is expected soon.

Municipal Commissioner officials have indicated that water rationing may have to be implemented within the next week. Authorities are also considering reducing water usage at washing centres and swimming pools as part of a broader conservation strategy.

The Pune Municipal Corporation is set to launch a "Save Water" campaign and has asked residents to prepare for possible restrictions from Monday onward. Officials said they are assessing which parts of the city are facing the most severe shortages before finalizing the distribution plan.

According to the administration, around 5 TMC of water is currently available in the Khadakwasla reservoir system, but only 3 TMC remains earmarked for drinking purposes. If rainfall does not improve the situation, the city may have to shift to an alternate-day water supply schedule.

Authorities stressed that any water cuts will be implemented through proper planning to ensure equitable distribution across all areas of the city.
