Today, touching a very important topic. And I hope everyone who reads it receives it well. 🤞🏻
To tell you the reason why I decided and hosted this ebook carnival, I will have to take you back to December 2024 when I visited Pune Book Fair. And I visited almost 10 stalls to network with publishing houses for Authoropod. Whatever little time I spent on the stalls, I noticed readers coming in to ask for classics at a cheap rate, they were fine with pre-loved classics too. And it was painful to see the stall owners/keepers decline them politely. It was commendable to see how they were trying to flip the situation by persuading a potential reader to give new authors and their books a fair chance, they were doing their work on point.
No offence to classics. But how do we as new authors reach readers who would give us a fair chance? For them to at least read a few sample chapters to get acquainted with our writing styles, we need to reach them in the first place. Sending paperback to every potential reader is not practically as well as economically feasible. Besides, the digital transformation has brought in this fantastic opportunity which is easy to access. I believed that kindle reading culture had not reached India in a ratio it has reached other countries. However, after multiple interactions with the next generation of readers, they don't mind good literature in any format. They are quite open and accepting that way. Of course, ebooks will never be able to give the joy of paperback, but the fact that they don't consume space, are a more sustainable option and can be accessed from any part of the world should be enough reason to be a part of this carnival, right?
Readers are evolving, and to make sure we reach them, we will have to evolve too. I myself am participating with 4 books, hoping and praying this ebook carnival brings some new fans and regular readers to all the authors who have registered.
