laddakh, punjab and North-East Sarhad has realized that music can people across religions,language,culture,castes and creed.With this perception,Sarhad founded "Sarhad Music" an initiative to use music as a protect medium to forge a soul-to-soul relationship among not just the people of india but across the borders,the people of all the neighbouring countries like Nepal,sri Lanka Bangladesh, Afghanistan etc.as well.

From the Brahmaputra to the Bhima, from Guwahati to Pune the spirit of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika continues to unite hearts through music, humanity, and hope. A poet, composer, and dreamer who believed that “music can heal wounds that politics cannot,” Bhupen Da inspired Sarhad, founded by Sanjay Nahar, to turn borders into bridges and pain into compassion. The Dr. Bhupen Hazarika National Award was instituted by Sarhad in 2012. In this birth centenary year of Bhupen Da, the awards will be conferred by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for DoNER and Communications. It honours six torchbearers of the Northeast , Smt. Laishram Mema Devi, Shri L.R. Sailo, Shri.Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Prof. David R. Syiemlieh, Dr. Surjya Kanta Hazarika, and Smt. Rajni Basumatary; each carrying forward his legacy of love, unity, and the belief that humanity is the only true music.
