A portable FTIR lubricant analyzer now includes triple-cell technology, chemometric water quantification, and automated fingerprinting for field use.

The eraspec oil platform is designed to deliver laboratory-grade precision in onsite environments through a fully automated, solvent-free workflow with an integrated sample pump.

Key capabilities include:

Triple-cell design with a 500- m measurement cell, a standard 100- m cell, and a built-in reference cell.

Improved limit of detection for antioxidant additives, water, and esters.

Chemometric water quantification calibrated to ASTM D6304-B, with results in under two minutes for water concentrations of 50 ppm or higher.

Automated FTIR spectral matching for fresh lubricating oils using an onboard reference database and Pearson correlation coefficient.

What capability would matter most in onsite lubricant analysis?

INEOS has opened the E.U.'s first full-scale CO₂ storage site in Denmark, marking Greensand’s move into commercial operation at the Port of Esbjerg.

The site is designed to provide industry across the E.U. with infrastructure to transport and permanently store CO₂. In its first commercial phase, it can store up to 400,000 tons of CO₂ each year, with potential expansion to 4 to 8 million tons annually.

Key details:
• CO₂ will be sourced primarily from Danish biomethane plants.
• It will be liquefied, transported by truck to Port Esbjerg, shipped on Carbon Destroyer 1, and injected into the Nini West reservoir.
• The project is led by INEOS Energy with Harbour Energy and the Danish North Sea Fund.

The opening comes as European industry faces rising costs and pressure to reduce emissions while keeping production in place. What role do you see carbon storage playing in Europe’s industrial future?

Ansaldo Green Tech has completed a new high-volume production line for AEM electrolyzer stacks at its Genoa facility.

The line has a production capacity exceeding 300 MW per year and marks a major step in the industrialization of the company’s electrolyzer technology.

Key details include:

The project was developed under the Turnkey Electrochemical Plants for H2 Production initiative.
It is supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European IPCEI Hydrogen program.
More than $300 million in public funding supports the development and industrial production of AEM electrolyzers.

The company’s AEM electrolyzers are designed to work efficiently with renewable energy sources and deliver pressurized hydrogen. Commissioning and optimization will continue over the coming months before industrial production begins.

How do you see large-scale electrolyzer production shaping hydrogen development in Europe?

Hive Hydrogen South Africa has awarded Técnicas Reunidas a FEED contract for a large green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in the Coega Special Economic Zone in South Africa.

The project is expected to produce about one million metric tons of green ammonia annually for domestic and international markets. It carries a projected investment of $1.8 billion.

The FEED scope includes:
Hydrogen production electrolyzers
Air separation units and the green ammonia production loop
A desalination plant
Storage systems with capacity of over 100,000 metric tons
Pipelines to the port of Ngqura
Auxiliary facilities

The company says the project is intended to move from FEED into full EPC phase if the required outcomes, approvals, financing, and Final Investment Decision are achieved.

What stands out most about this project, scale, location, or scope?

TotalEnergies now fully owns the Grandpuits advanced plastics recycling plant in Seine-et-Marne after acquiring the remaining 35% interest. The plant, which started production in March 2026, has an annual capacity to process 15,000 tons of plastic waste.

The facility transforms hard-to-recycle plastic waste from French households, including waste collected in yellow recycling bins, into synthetic oil through a pyrolysis process. That output can be used as circular petrochemical feedstock in place of fossil feedstocks.

The plant also supports the production of recycled plastics with quality comparable to virgin plastics, including materials suitable for food contact and medical applications. A 2023 agreement with two French partners secured the plant’s long-term plastic waste supply.

What do you think this means for advanced recycling in France?

Evonik has broken ground on an approximately EUR 80 million biotechnology expansion at its Fermas site in Slovenská Ľupča, Slovakia.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2028 and will add downstream fermentation technology to expand capacity for complex pharmaceutical intermediates.

Key details include:

• Approximately 50 new jobs
• Expanded contract manufacturing services for the drug substance business
• Continued development of the Fermas site as a biotechnology hub

The site already operates on 100 percent green electricity and uses renewable and certified raw materials in selected production processes.

The expansion builds on more than three decades of fermentation expertise at the site and reflects ongoing investment in biotechnology manufacturing. What stands out most about this expansion: capacity, sustainability, or job creation?

The DULCOEYE SAC optical sensor measures organic load in water and provides real-time treatment performance data. It measures absorption at 254 nm and correlates key water quality indicators, including SAC, UVT, COD, BOD, TOC, and DOC.

The sensor is designed for waterworks and sewage treatment plants, with options for immersion or bypass armatures. It also includes a long-life UV LED, three optical path lengths for different contamination levels, a compact flow reservoir, and an automatic cleaning wiper with a replaceable blade.

It is designed for seamless integration with the DULCOMETER diaLog C system, which auto-detects the sensor and simplifies commissioning. ProMinent offers it as a stand-alone product or mounted on the pre-assembled DULCOTROL SAC panel.

How could real-time organic-load measurement support water treatment operations?

S-OIL has reached Final Investment Decision for Axens' Liquid Phase Xylene Isomerization technology at Aromatics Complex #1. The unit is scheduled to start up in Q2 2027.

The project follows a license agreement signed in late 2024 and includes the technology license, process design package, and technical services for ex*****on and start-up.

The companies say the project is designed to improve overall aromatics complex performance, support energy efficiency, and reduce emissions. It is also intended to help meet growing demand for paraxylene.

Axens says the technology has been implemented in several aromatics complexes worldwide and delivers energy savings across the xylenes loop. What do you see as the main value of this investment?

R3 Lithium has started operations to produce lithium carbonate from 100% recycled battery materials at North America’s first proven commercial-scale recovery facility in Covington, Georgia.

The company also secured $15M in Series A funding from investors including Integral GlobalTech Partners, TDK Ventures, and Axial Partners. The capital will support upgrades to the existing production line.

Key details include:
- The facility was acquired in July 2026.
- It has 30,000 metric tons of shredding capacity.
- It includes a 2,500-metric-ton lithium carbonate production line, with space for another line of the same size.
- R3 Lithium holds approximately $1 billion in signed offtake agreements.

The company says the site will recover, refine, and return lithium carbonate to the domestic battery supply chain without primary mining or non-domestic refining. What does this signal for domestic lithium supply?
