Maha: MPCC chief criticises Mahayuti Govt on reservation issue

(MPCC) on Monday strongly attacked the BJP-led on issue of reservation, accusing it of having ignited the dispute between the Maratha and OBC communities over reservation in the state.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarter, he held the BJP and responsible for delay in reservation to the Marathas.

In 2014, under the leadership of , the -led had granted reservation to the , he recalled.

However, the subsequent Fadnavis government did not convert the ordinance on Maratha reservation into law, leading to it getting lapsed, he said and alleged that Fadnavis is true culprit behind the failure of Maratha reservation.

“In 2014, Fadnavis had promised reservation for various castes and communities, including Marathas, Dhangars and Halba. Now that it is their responsibility to fulfil these promises, why are they blaming the opposition for it,” he countered.

The MPCC chief said that while the leaders and ministers of the Mahayuti are asking the opposition to clarify their stance on Maratha reservation, a detailed discussion on the issue had already taken place in an all-party meeting and even the opposition had also clarified their position, he recalled.

“Now, the responsibility to take a decision lies with the state government, but it is deliberately delaying it. With BJP in power both at the Centre and in the state, who is stopping the Mahayuti government from granting reservation?” he asked and said that a decision should be made immediately.

“Did they consult the opposition while handing over lands worth crores to industrialist at throwaway prices? Did they consult the opposition when industries were being shifted from Maharashtra to Gujarat?” he questioned.

The government needs to make the decision on reservation, and they cannot shirk their responsibility, he said.

On remark on senior leader as the “ring leader of the corrupt” at a BJP rally in , Patole remembered that it was the BJP-led central government that honoured Sharad Pawar with the Padma Vibhushan award in 2017.

“How is it then Sharad Pawar has now become the ring leader of the corrupt in their eyes? If there is such a person, it is ,” he added.

Maha: Mahayuti Govt working for Adani: Sharma

general secretary on Monday alleged that the is working for industrialist and is trying to shove all the projects in one by one into Adani’s throat.

While it is being decided to give important land parcels in to Adani at a bargain price, now the effort to give the power project to Adani has also started, he claimed.

On instructions of and , steps are being taken to hand over 1,600 MW thermal and 5,000 MW solar power projects to the , he further claimed.

Sharma alleged that it is a strategy of the (grand alliance) to award Adani a single tender for these two power projects worth Rs 60,000 crore.

Giving more information on this, he informed that by rule, thermal and solar power projects cannot be awarded to the same industrial group, but this rule seems to have been deliberately ignored by the (MSEDCL).

He said that Maharashtra State Vidyut Vitratan Company started the tender process for these two power projects on March 13, 2024.

The Maharashtra State Vidyut Vitratan Company has to complete the resource adequacy study in this regard by September 2024 and get approval from the state regulator by October, he informed.

When tenders for these two energy projects were issued with the goal of 2034, what was the need to implement the tender process in such a hurry, he questioned.

The state electricity regulator has also expressed serious concern as the necessary permissions had not been taken in entire tender process of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL).

Terming the tender process as flawed, the expressed that it seems to have been implemented keeping in mind the benefit of a single industrialist, he claimed.

“If tenders were invited from several companies for these two power projects, the government would have benefited by creating competition,” Sharma averred and demanded that the process of awarding tenders should be stopped.
