This is Rohit, your usual 9to5 corporate guy working in tech.
I know this sounds harsh.
But waiting for your manager to grow your career is one of the biggest mistakes I made.
Here’s why.
1. Managers change.
Your career stays with you.
2. They optimise for the team’s goals.
You need to optimise for your long-term goals.
3. They don’t know every opportunity you want.
If you don’t talk about your ambitions, they have nothing to work with.
4. Promotions don’t happen because you waited patiently.
They happen because you became ready for the next level.
5. The best career decisions usually come from you.
Learning a new skill.
Building your network.
Switching teams.
Changing companies.
Your manager can support your growth.
But they shouldn’t be the strategy.
That’s your job.
Save this for later.
What’s your take?
Do you agree, or do you think managers should own career growth? I’d love to hear both sides.
