would i recommend the sleeper train as a good way to get from delhi to udaipur? absolutely yes!
would i say that i had the best experience on the train? no i didn’t have the best experience!
here’s why…
1. we happened to be running behind schedule and got to the station around 5 minutes before the train departed which was so stressful
2. all the groups seats/beds were separated so we ended up in small groups away from each other
3. when the small group i was in got to our seats there were people in them who wouldn’t move and we had to get our guide to make them move
4. some men came up to us and were being weird and our guide had to get them to leave us alone
5. the people who were in our seats kept on whispering to each other, looking at us and laughing which made us feel super uncomfortable
6. we ended up moving seats so that there were 5 of us all together and it was all good and then we found out the other people in our group only had double bunk beds and curtains, whereas we had triple bunk beds and no curtains
7. once it was time to sleep it was just so uncomfortable in our section and a few of us got very little sleep
8. in the middle of the night we were woken by a man shining a torch in our faces and rummaging around by our bags, he decided he wanted the bed of one of the girls in our group, we had to call our guide out of bed to come and help
9. by the time it was morning and we reached udaipur i was absolutely exhausted and must have only got an hour or so worth of sleep across the whole 13 hour train ride
overall, despite so much happening in the span of 13 hours on the train that made it pretty challenging i think it was an experience that i’m glad i’ve had, now that i’ve done this train, i can do any sleeper train
