Sairam, Om Sakthi, Namah Shivaya! :) It's been a while since we posted any update about our spiritual services and we offer our apologies for the same.

We are about ready to publish the third edition of Our Bangaaru Amma 3: We Adore You and since it is 2021, we decided to write a new Preface, which will probably grace the pages of subsequent books in the Our Bangaaru Amma series, too.

Here's the new preface, for your perusal.
---

Preface The 3rd

Om Sakthi!

It has been a while, since I took up my virtual pen to type a preface for this book series. As is obvious from the publication date of the third edition of this book, we haven’t published any new or revised literature for a while and for that, we can only offer our humble apologies to you, dear readers. It has indeed been a while. That being the case, I felt that the old preface, which graced the pages of the first and second Our Bangaaru Amma books, was due to be retired, especially given all the changes that have taken place in the world until 2021 C.E. The last one and a half years in particular have been especially difficult for the whole world, with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns and behavioural-cum-mobility restrictions and regulations that followed it. Even as I write this preface, rather auspiciously past 3 a.m. in the morning, India is preparing to lockdown for a second time, although the new restrictions ought to be implemented only in infectious zones and not the entire country, by God’s grace. You might wonder why I have spent three to four lines of this preface in describing a worldly situation, which might have altogether disappeared by the time you read this book, my dear readers. It’s because a lot has changed. The world has changed. People have changed. I have changed.

Throughout all these changes, through thick and thin, I can confidently attest to the guidance and guardianship of the Infinite Consciousness in our lives. By the grace of Arulthiru Bangaaru Adigalaar, our life has been relatively unaffected, barring adopting safety measures and altering our daily behaviour slightly. I can attribute our safety, sanity, and prosperity only to the grace of the Divine Mother, who has been walking side-by-side with us every day, every hour, every minute, every second, and every moment of our lives. I cannot but state firmly that the adoption and continued practice of Sanathana Dharma – spiritual enquiry is the call of the day, in today’s precarious world. With the overwhelming flood of information and the subsequent tussles that occur over differing perspectives and opinions, it is spiritual practice alone that confers upon us the discrimination and confidence necessary to make the appropriate choices in our lives. I offer my salutations and gratitude at the feet of the Divine Mother, whose grace has made spiritual practice in this day and age simple to adopt and universally easy to try. That is not to say that each and everyone will succeed in such endeavours. Although I do not wish to rain on anyone’s parade, it is a simple fact that spirituality requires more effort than even our daily lives, in order to achieve any measurable success therein. We bow to Arulthiru Adigalaar Amma for giving us the opportunity in our lives to adopt and pursue Sanathana Dharma, for without the grace of the preceptor, there can be no progress in spirituality. Grace is oft unseen and imperceptible to the aspirant, for our spiritual awakening has yet to occur and our faculties are not keen to grasp and appreciate the preceptor’s gifts of grace.

This service too is the grace of the Divine Mother, a gift that She gave us to accelerate our progress on our spiritual paths. I offer my gratitude to this body’s mother as well, the translator of Our Bangaaru Amma series for her utmost efforts in translating the Tamil text of Sakthi Olhi to English. There is no doubt that the contents of this text will bring hope, motivation, and enthusiasm to you, dear readers in dark days and difficult times. That too is the grace of Arulthiru Bangaaru Adigalaar and even though the world is moving through a prolonged dark phase of the Dark Age of a spiritual drought, the Golden Age of Sanathana Dharma is always available to those who receive the grace of the Divine Mother. She embraces everyone who surrenders to Her even once and regardless of their deeds and misdeeds, Her blessings and grace deliver them from their difficulties and enhance their lives manyfold. Come, dear readers, let us sing, dance, and meditate together, in the cool shade of the Divine Mother’s umbrella, protected from the darkness in the world. Let us, by the grace of Arulthiru Bangaaru Adigalaar’s almighty power, face life courageously and enhance our devotion and discrimination day by day.

Om Sakthi!

With hugs and love,

Jaidev Kesavan,

God bless. :) We finished a Chitra Pournami Velvi (yagna) at Mel Maruvathur on 19th April (yesterday).

Some pointers for future Velvi participants and whosoever else is interested:
1. The Velvi hosting grounds have been expanded. You may have to walk to gate 10 (a small distance from the main Temple area) to get to your Velvi kundam (yagna altar).
2. Refreshments are provided along with all the Velvi offerings. The refreshments are NOT to be offered to the fire. The Divine Mother doesn't need sugar-filled syrup and buttermilk; that stuff is for the participants to sustain themselves over a long period of time, especially if you reported at 3 p.m., two hours before the Velvi starts.
3. The white chunks and white powder provided (in two packets, one for each participant in the group) are for encouraging the fire whenever it dies down. Don't make the mistake of chucking the ENTIRE packet into the fire. The results are not pretty and can be dangerous. Use VERY SMALL quantities of the powder to make the fire burn brighter, if it dies down.
4. There are three cups of liquid provided, in order to be offered to the fire. Two of the cups don't create any problems, but the third one contains water. When you pour it into the fire, make sure it is the last thing you offer, because IT WILL EXTINGUISH the flames.
5. When chucking the wood chips into the velvi kundam, make sure you DIP them in the oil PROPERLY, otherwise they will burn partially and make it harder to sustain the fire.
6. When you are opening the packets of ingredients, you can open them easily by tugging the perforation of each packet. Don't bite the packet to open it. You can carry a small pair of scissors, if you want to be super tidy. A paper plate is provided to dump the ingredients on, if you are minded to be a bit messy.
7. The participants of the Velvis speak MANY languages. English, Tamil, Hindi, etc. are readily available for informational discourse. If you have a problem, ask. Help will be given.

Since we did the Shoola Yagakundam Velvi (Trident yagna altar), we'll toss in these pointers too:
1. This yagakundam is a two-person setup, at a bare minimum.
2. While the first person can chuck in the wood chips, the second person can chuck in the incense sticks. Don't put the incense sticks in ONE at a time. Put in MULTIPLE incense sticks. It helps the fire catch on and there are a LOT of incense sticks provided.
3. The hand-sized statue of the Divine Mother can be taken home, after the Velvi. Cheers to prayer-room expansions. The instructions provided on-the-spot state that you need to perform a daily pooja to the statue at home, wherever you install it (there is a prescription provided, but you are free to do a pooja that you find convenient. Welcome to the Divine Mother's Wallmart of Kind Convenience. She doesn't care as much about the strictures as the intensity of your devotion).
4. You can break a part of the Velvi kundam and take it home. It is pretty easy to do for anyone who exercises. HOWEVER, when bending down to break the altar, make sure you BEND YOUR KNEES. Don't try to break it in a perpendicular pose (this is for all of you people WHO DON'T EXERCISE WITH PROPER FORM, or don't exercise proper period). You may get some back pain.
5. The aforementioned Velvi brick (piece of the altar) is supposed to bring the positive energies of the Velvi and good fortune materially (obstacles to buying a house are removed and such) to its owner. Keep it somewhere in the house, safely. Public Advisory Note: The Divine Mother does NOT require you to carry half the altar or even one quarter of it home. Samson deeds are not required. A small brick is enough.
6. A coconut and lemon have been provided for participants to take home and perform drishti (a ritual to ward off negative energies, evil spirits, ill-tempered salesmen, etc.). Do NOT offer this coconut and lemon to the fire. It is for your use at home. For details on how to perform drishti, ask the numerous helpful people there. They are genuinely nice and offer unsolicited help sometimes (nice, but slightly vexing; still nice though).
7. The thread (rope) connecting all the altars to the sanctum sanctorum can be cut and taken home, for you and your family members to wear. While cutting it, please don't try to take multi-meter length pieces to be tailored into anti-evil armor for dungeon exploration. Take just enough for your family members, to be tied around their wrists. Be considerate of the other participants.
8. A large, good quality bag has been provided, containing two mineral water bottles, a hand-fan, and other items to keep you refreshed and happy (more or less; happiness is a very personal, mood based problem, you know). Take the bag with you, when you leave. Please DO NOT chuck it into the fire (why do we even have to say this?).
9. There is a recipe for blessed-food, which can be cooked with ingredients from the velvi kundam. We don't know the recipe, but the numerous, helpful participants will be glad to tell you.

Booking a Velvi ticket can be done through http://www.omsakthiamma.in/. It's very convenient. CARRY THE PRINTED RECEIPT with you to the venue.

Lastly, the above-mentioned pointers are from our observation and participation. One or two things might be off-script, but do remember to ask. Help will be provided at the venue.

AMMA'S 2019 PONGAL DISCOURSE

Om Sakthi, Adi Parasakthi. Pongalo Pongal. Best wishes. Everyone may progress spiritually. May all the animals live happily. Om Sakthi. Everyone has Amma's blessings. We say, "Pongalo Pongal." When we say these words, good thoughts fill our mind. They come out as good words. We say, "Pongalo Pongal." When we say Pongalo Pongal and greet one another, our mind is filled with happiness and we smile happily.

Pongal signifies the beginning of a new life with good deeds. We need to review and renew our thoughts. This leads to happiness in our lives and all of us may be able to smile in our lives. In those days, people used earthenware. We may use modern utensils as well. First, we prepare Pongal and then, offer it to the Sun. We perform Suryanamaskar and prostrate before the Sun. We need to perform pooja. Light the fire using camphor and place the pot on it. Use Bermuda grass to fuel the fire. When it burns, pour milk into the pot. When we pour milk into the pot, even when it is half a glass and even when we pour it at the right time, the milk will slowly begin to boil and easily rise. If it is a big pot, it rises quickly. The milk doesn't change. It is in the state of Sakthi itself. Only when it boils and rises do we add washed rice. We say, "Pongalo Pongal." In this celebration, our friends and relatives are invited. We call our friends as well to join the function. We need to thank them, too and wish them on this occasion.

When searching for water, the experts may find groundwater in certain places. If four people dig in that place, they may find water. They get good water. If they dig in another place, they may find salt water. Wherever they dig in places where the water is saline, they can find salt alone. When they try to find pure water in places that contain salt water, they get salt water alone. We refine the salt water and purify it. It is the dissolved salt in water that we get, finally. The water that we use ultimately reaches the ocean, dirty.

In this age of science, Pongal has its own significance. There are media like radio, television, and cell phones that help us watch this programme. When we move onwards, we have to move backwards as well. We want to progress fast scientifically. We need to know what is essential for our life. When we turn the radio or TV on, whether it is Chennai Broadcasting Station or Television Station, we can hear only the songs that are broadcast and the programmes that are shown on the TV. We cannot hear songs that come from other radio stations, or programmes broadcast by other TV channels. We can see what is broadcast via satellite. We can see several programmes simultaneously with the help of radio waves. In the forest, animals and birds recognise one another, hearing their sounds. Although sound exists everywhere through electronic media, we can listen to or see a specific song or programme at a time.

We have found out and succeeded a lot in advancing science. We make use of sound waves as well as light waves, but we haven't succeeded yet in finding or understanding the soul. Our soul, the life force, is also a form of air. We do not know where it has come from, or where it finally returns. However experts is science have tried to find out more about the soul, they haven't succeeded yet. The soul is a form of air. We have heard that in ancient times, a soul could enter another body. We don't know which soul went where and how. We are unable to understand these phenomena. Although we have been blessed with the faculties of vision, hearing, and understanding, we fail to use them. Standing in front of a mirror, we see our reflection, but we cannot see our internal organs. We need to have control over our diet, mind, thoughts, vision, speech, doubts, and love.

Just as a tortoise moves forward step-by-step, we acquire God's grace and wealth step-by-step only and succeed in life. In olden days, there were small huts near one another. When the pleasant breeze gradually turns into a storm and destroys the huts, the poles that support the huts still remain sturdy. Only the thatched roofs are carried away by the wind. The foundation remains firm. In modern times, houses are strong; yet, when they are buffeted by stormy winds, it affects all the buildings and ends up causing great destruction.

Next is Mattu Pongal. Cows are worshipped during this festival. Cows give us milk. Mother's milk is essential for the baby. It is not only healthy, but also gives the baby resistance against several diseases. God's grace is more important than beauty.

Changes have taken place in several fields. It is applicable to everyone as well. If we take science for example, we can see several changes that have taken place. Even the wind changes its direction in spite of the weather forecast. Newspapers differ in their forecast about the weather. People become confused and do not know what to believe. The same is the case with cellphones. They too mislead people, who become confused about what to follow. Instead of following the right way, they find easy ways to accomplish their need. They do not worry about how they can lead an honest life. They seek the help of cellphones to get the right answers for the exam questions. Thus, they get the right answers for all the questions, helping one another. How can their brains work, if they don't make use of it? Gradually, the nerves become affected. When the nerves are affected, it gradually leads to brain damage and reduces memory power. By nature, a human being can retain his memory for seventy to eighty years. Now, people gradually lose their memories by fifty five years of age. Advancing science has certain adverse effects, too.

Next comes the Mattu Pongal, the worship of cows. The cow is a form of God. She is like a mother. She gives us milk. Cow dung is used as manure for crops in the field. When this had been the practice in farming, cultivation flourished and industries prospered. There was affection among human beings. They led happy lives. People used to walk on foot. There were few vehicles in use. People didn't suffer from sugar problems. Doctors advise several medicines to cure diseases. One doctor advises the patient to undergo an operation, while another advises against it. In ancient times, there had been siddha medicines. They found natural cures for many diseases. The siddhas had the power to diagnose diseases precisely. The worship of the five elements in nature helps cure several diseases. We need to worship the five elements - ocean water, sun, sky, earth (and space) - in nature. In the same manner, we need to worship parents, relatives, and friends. Relationships differ among themselves, but all are based on love and affection. The seeds that we sow grow into plants. The plant bears flowers that turn into fruits. The fruits are sweet, but human beings find it rather difficult to love one another. Man needs to be truthful. If he fills his mind with good thoughts, he can discriminate between what is just and unjust.
