RAJOURI, OCTOBER 7: Sarvodaya Ummeed Foundation and Ummeed Youth Club, affiliated with MY Bharat, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, organised the first volleyball match of their series at Government High School, Azmatabad, in Block Thanamandi.

The sporting event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a good number of local youth, while school staff and students also turned up to witness and support the match, creating an encouraging atmosphere for grassroots sports and youth engagement.

In the keenly contested match, Spartan Volleyball Team emerged victorious, while Dragon Slayer Team secured the runner-up position.

The programme was led and financially supported by Saleem Talib, National Youth Volunteer, with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and constructive engagement among youth at the grassroots level.

The organisers appreciated all participating teams, students, school staff and supporters for their active participation and contribution towards making the event a success.

The initiative is aimed at providing local youth with opportunities to participate in sporting activities while encouraging a healthy, positive and community-oriented environment.

DHEW Rajouri Holds Awareness Session on Women, Child Rights and Social Issues

Students sensitised about girl child education, helpline services, cyber safety and drug abuse prevention

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 7: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Rajouri, under the Department of Social Welfare, organised an awareness session at Government Girls Middle School, Rajouri, to sensitise students about women and child-centric issues, government welfare schemes, helpline services and emerging social concerns.

The programme placed special emphasis on the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, highlighting the importance of girls’ education, equal opportunities and empowerment. Students were encouraged to recognise education as a key tool for building a safe, confident and empowered future for the girl child.

The participants were also briefed about essential support services and helpline facilities, including Child Helpline 1098, which assists children requiring care and protection, and Women Helpline 181, which provides support to women facing distress or seeking assistance.

A detailed session on cyber safety and cyber fraud was also conducted. Students were advised to remain vigilant while using digital platforms and never share personal, banking or financial information with unknown persons. They were further urged to promptly report suspicious online activities.

The programme also highlighted the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, with students being sensitised about the harmful physical, psychological and social consequences of drug abuse. They were encouraged to stay away from drugs and spread awareness among their peers, families and communities about the importance of a drug-free society. Information regarding the Drug De-addiction Helpline was also shared to facilitate access to counselling and support.

Gender Specialist Ms. Nazma Sheikh addressed the participants and conducted the proceedings of the awareness programme. She elaborated on the issues discussed and urged students to become active ambassadors of awareness concerning girl child education, child protection, women’s safety, cyber security and prevention of substance abuse.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Rajouri, with the objective of strengthening awareness among students and encouraging them to become responsible, informed and socially conscious members of society.

The session concluded with an appeal to the students to act as responsible ambassadors of awareness and contribute towards building a safer, educated, empowered and drug-free society.

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 7: The Youth Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rajouri unit, staged a protest in Rajouri, with party workers, youth leaders and members of the party’s student wing participating in the demonstration.

The protesters assembled near the AAP party office at Balla Park and marched towards Balla Bridge, Rajouri, raising slogans and highlighting issues of public concern.

The protest was held under the leadership of AAP Pir Panjal President Advocate Ibrar Choudhary
State Youth President Tosif Ahmed Choudhary, Senior Leader Rukshar Shah, Women Wing incharge Mehar Hussain,District Youth President Ayan Shafiq, and District In-Charge Hasnat Ahmed Malik.

A significant number of youth and party workers participated in the protest, reflecting the party’s efforts to mobilise young people and raise their concerns through democratic means.

The AAP leaders stated that the protest was aimed at drawing attention to issues affecting the public and strengthening the party’s outreach among the people of Rajouri.

NIESBUD EDP Certificates Distributed Among Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and Women in Rajouri

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 7 : The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) organised a certificate distribution programme in Rajouri following the successful completion of a three-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for Army retired personnel, Veer Naris, Army widows, family members and women.

The programme was organised in collaboration with the Ace of Spades Division, 25 Infantry Division, with the objective of promoting entrepreneurship, self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities among beneficiaries.

During the three-day programme, participants received orientation on entrepreneurship, identification of business opportunities, enterprise planning, market surveys, business plans, government support schemes, marketing, social media, digital marketing tools and financial aspects of starting and managing an enterprise.

The training also covered Udyam Registration, action planning and post-training mentoring, enabling participants to better understand the process of establishing and expanding small enterprises.

Certificates were distributed among the participants in recognition of their successful participation in the entrepreneurship development programme.

The initiative provided ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, women and other family members an opportunity to gain practical knowledge about entrepreneurship and explore avenues for self-employment and enterprise development.

The organisers appreciated the active participation of the beneficiaries and expressed hope that the training would encourage them to convert their ideas into viable business ventures and contribute towards economic empowerment.

Ensure timely service delivery, effective enforcement & road safety: Transport Commissioner at Rajouri

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 6: Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan today chaired a joint meeting of the Motor Vehicle Department (MND) functionaries of Rajouri and Poonch here to review the functioning of the Department, including online service delivery and road safety measures in the twin border districts.

The Transport Commissioner reviewed the online services on the SARATHI and VAHAN portals and took stock of the pendency and disposal of applications.

He directed the concerned officers and officials to ensure transparency and accountability in the delivery of services. “Applications shall be processed and disposed of in a time bound manner so that the general public does not face any inconvenience,” he added.

The Transport Commissioner also reviewed the causes and trends of road accidents and took stock of road safety awareness campaigns conducted in educational institutions. He emphasised the need for launching a sustained campaign to generate awareness among students and young drivers, to promote responsible road-user behaviour and reduce road accidents.

As part of the road safety review, the Transport Commissioner also inspected identified black spots along the National Highway and Mughal Road and reviewed the corrective measures. He stressed the need for regular monitoring and coordinated action to improve road safety at such locations.

The Transport Commissioner further directed the concerned officers to identify and seal all vehicle showrooms operating without a valid Trade Certificate/licence, in accordance with the applicable rules. He stressed that strict action should be taken against establishments found operating in violation of the prescribed requirements.

The ARTOs of the two districts were asked to conduct joint enforcement drives on the National Highway, with focus on checking violations that pose a threat to road safety.

ARTO Rajouri Ashiq Rafiq Malik, ARTO Poonch Nawaz Sharif, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and other officials of the Transport Department attended the meeting.

October 2026 With the aim of Sensitizing youth and students about modern technology and providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for the digital age, the Jhangar Battalion organized a special and interactive digital literacy program at Sehar School in Nowshera on Tuesday. The program was organized under the theme "Education for All - Empowerment through Knowledge: Digital Literacy," with the sub-theme "Creative Thinking." Both school students and teachers participated enthusiastically. Through interactive sessions, students were provided information on various aspects of safe, responsible, and productive use of digital technology. Students were made aware that digital technology is not just a means of entertainment today, but also a vital medium for education, knowledge, creativity, innovation, and personal development. The program specifically addressed important topics such as online safety, responsible use of the internet, protection of personal information and personal data, and precautions to be taken on digital platforms. Students were informed that while using the internet, they should avoid sharing personal information, passwords, and other sensitive details with strangers or on unsecured platforms. They were also encouraged to use technology creatively. They were told that digital media can be used to learn new things, express their ideas creatively, gain knowledge, and pursue innovation. Students were encouraged to move beyond traditional thinking and develop new ideas and perspectives. Through interactive activities and discussions, students shared their views on various topics related to digital technology. The program's objective was not only to provide information on the use of digital devices, but also to develop a sense of responsible digital citizenship, safe online behavior, and creative thinking among students. The active participation of students and teachers during the program made the entire event more effective and informative. Students listened with interest in information related to the positive use of digital technology and also raised questions while participating in various activities. This initiative, organized by the Indian Army's Jhangar Battalion, was considered an important step towards the all-round development of students. Such programs not only prepare young people for the changing technological environment but also help them understand the opportunities and challenges present in the digital world.

India Bloc Announces October 8 Protest in Rajouri, Raises Questions Over Electoral Roll Revision

Joint meeting and press conference held under ‘Save Democracy Week’; leaders allege voter deletions and demand greater accountability from Election Commission

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 6 : The India Bloc on Monday held a joint meeting and press conference in Rajouri as part of the “Save Democracy Week” programme, announced following directions of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and a resolution adopted by the India Bloc.

The programme was presided over by Rajouri MLA Ifthkar Ahmed and attended by DCC Rajouri President Ashok Sharma, National Conference District President Shaifayat Khan and PDP District President Anjum Mirza, besides senior leaders and workers of the constituent parties.

Addressing the media, MLA Ifthkar Ahmed expressed concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission of India, alleging that the Commission was favouring the BJP. He also criticised the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that names of eligible voters were being deleted from electoral lists.

DCC Rajouri President Ashok Sharma also addressed the press conference and appealed to people to support the programme. He maintained that the constituent parties of the India Bloc were united and would jointly demonstrate against what they described as concerns surrounding the functioning of the Election Commission and the electoral process.

The leaders announced that the India Bloc would stage a protest in Rajouri on October 8. According to the announcement, the protest will commence from Children Park and proceed towards the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, with leaders and workers of the constituent parties expected to participate.

Among those present were Junaid Choudhary, Senior Vice President; Shafqat Mir, State Secretary, National Conference; Sushil Sharma, senior Congress leader; Tahir Lone; Rattan Syal; Babar Malik; Farooq Choudhary; Mukhtar Ahmed; and Haji Jamshed, besides other senior leaders and workers.

The India Bloc leaders appealed to the public to participate in the October 8 demonstration, stating that the constituent parties would continue their collective efforts to raise what they termed concerns relating to democracy, electoral transparency and the electoral process.

BGSBU Hosts Scholarly Lecture on Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in 21st Century

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 6: The Department of History, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, in collaboration with the Department of Economics, organised an online scholarly lecture on “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in 21st Century” under the BGSBU Lecture Series.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Parwez Nazir, Professor of Modern Indian History at the Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. A noted scholar of modern Indian history, Prof. Nazir dwelt on the continuing relevance of Gandhian philosophy and its significance in understanding contemporary social, economic and ethical challenges.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Tazeem Akhter, Head, Department of History, who welcomed Prof. Nazir, faculty members and students. She underlined the importance of providing students with opportunities to interact directly with eminent scholars and gain wider academic perspectives.

In his address, Prof. Nazir elaborated on various dimensions of Gandhian philosophy and encouraged students to critically examine Gandhi’s ideas in the context of contemporary society. He particularly highlighted the relevance of Gandhian thought in addressing questions related to ethics, social responsibility, economic concerns and human values.

The lecture provided students with an enriching academic platform to engage with contemporary issues through the lens of Gandhian philosophy and broaden their understanding of the relationship between historical ideas and present-day challenges.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Punzoo, Assistant Professor, Department of History, BGSBU, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Parwez Nazir for his insightful and thought-provoking lecture and thanked faculty members and students for their active participation.

The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Rather, Head, Department of Economics, BGSBU.

The lecture marked the second academic engagement under the BGSBU Lecture Series in the Department of History, aimed at facilitating meaningful interaction between students and eminent scholars while strengthening the university’s academic environment.
