A salon manager who had filed a r**e complaint last year was shot at by two men, including the accused, in Delhi's Vasant Vihar area.

The attack occurred on July 30 as she was returning home from work in an autorickshaw. Reportedly, the duo was angered by the complaint she had filed.

The accused, Abuzair Safi, had been watching the survivor's movements for 2-3 days before the attack. He had tried to contact her, but she didn't respond, leading him to plan the attack with his aide, Aman Shukla. Police said Safi was arrested in the r**e case last year and released on interim bail last month.

Both men have been arrested, and a case of attempted murder has been registered.

Police received a PCR call about the shooting near Poorvi Marg red light and found the autorickshaw parked at the scene.

The investigation is underway.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the government doesn't consider unauthorized occupation of public land by indigenous people as encroachment. However, it will continue eviction drives against suspected foreigners. Sarma emphasized that only cases involving those who have allegedly come from Bangladesh will be considered encroachments.

The CM's comments came amid a massive eviction drive in Golaghat district, aiming to clear alleged encroachments from nearly 1,500 hectares of forest land. Sarma stressed that the government will proceed with evictions in areas where foreigners and doubtful citizens are living. This drive is part of a larger effort to clear public areas of encroachments.

Sarma had previously announced plans to clear public areas, including forest land and grazing reserves, of encroachments in a phased manner. He claimed that over 42,500 acres of land had been cleared of encroachments in the last four years, but around 9.5 lakh acres of land are still under encroachment by "illegal Bangladeshis and doubtful citizens" in the state.

The 'Janaza-Ghaib (funeral in absentia)' of Tahir Habib, a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and former Pakistan Army soldier, was held in his village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Habib was killed in Operation Mahadev in J&K's Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.

Videos and pictures posted on Telegram channels showed the elderly of Khai Gala gathering for the final prayers.

However, the funeral took an unexpected turn when local LeT commander Rizwan Hanif tried to attend despite being barred by Tahir's family.

This led to a confrontation, and Hanif's attempt to force his way into the funeral sparked outrage among villagers. Lashkar operatives even threatened mourners with a gun, further escalating tensions.

The incident highlights the growing resistance among POK residents against Pakistan's state-sponsored terror and the impact of Indian security operations.

NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) secured a convincing 3-1 win over Malaysian Armed Forces at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.

Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored a hat-trick, striking twice in the first half and adding another after the break. The Highlanders dominated possession from the outset, creating several goal-scoring chances and taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Aajaraie's clinical finishing and precise passing from Jithin MS helped NorthEast United FC take control of the match.

Despite the Malaysian Armed Forces coming close twice early in the second half, they lacked precision in the final third. Ajaraie's stunning left-footed shot sealed the win for the Highlanders, putting them 3-0 up.

The Malaysian Armed Forces scored a consolation goal in the 88th minute through Mohammed Amir, but it was too little, too late.

NorthEast United FC will now face a tough test against Group E leaders Shillong Lajong FC on August 8.
