In a startling turn of events, a woman's Swiggy account became the target of an online scam, leading to a hefty loss of Rs 97,000.
Two Gurgraon-based cybercriminals, named Aniket Kalra, 25, and Himanshu Kumar, 23, one of whom was a former delivery boy for Zomato and Swiggy, devised a plan to siphon off nearly a lakh from unsuspecting victims.
Their modus operandi? A cleverly disguised Interactive Voice Response (IVR) call that mimicked Swiggy's official communication.
Late one night, they contacted a 26-year-old woman, spinning a tale of her Swiggy account being under threat. Concerned and caught off-guard, she was tricked into handing over her account details.
With her information in hand, these hackers didn't waste any time. They logged into her Swiggy account and went on a shopping spree, racking up orders worth Rs 97,000.
The funds were used from her Lazy Pay account, which was linked for convenience but became a gateway for this fraud.
The police acted upon the woman's complaint, and the investigation led to the arrest of the duo responsible for this scam.
