Important tips to learn coding faster
Computer Science
coding programming python programming
When learning how to code, it is important to know the right way to learn. Otherwise even after spending an enormous amount of time, it can happen that you are not actually good in coding and there are gaps in your learning.

1. Practice coding
Only seeing tutorials for coding would not help. Often students are satisfied in watching videos and they feel that the learning is over. This is not how it works in real life and is definitely not coding. Unless you are stuck at problems, you do not know your weaknesses. Writing code is the deal. And you have to get things executed. Practice problems from sites such as Hackerrank to get started. There are elaborate editorials for problems and you can understand from there if you are stuck. Check out this article for more resources.

For running Python programs, you can also use Google Colaboratory. You have the power of Google data centres at your disposition and there is no additional need to install anything else. The notebooks are present in the Google Drive connected to your account. Try Google Colaboratory.

2. Googling
Google things on how to do it. Stackoverflow has many solutions to very frequently occurring errors. There are blog posts available for it. Use the main keywords and not unnecessary grammar. Googling in itself is a great skill. You need not remember each and every syntax of every programming language. Be smart to take the help of the resources.

3. Patience
Writing code by yourself by following the logic requires patience and it is okay to struggle at first. You can understand the basic syntax of a language at one go but that is not enough. For understanding the subtleties in the various problems, you need to spend longer time with the specific questions. If you are stuck in writing a program, follow the 2nd step, read the code, the relevant material and execute step 1. Once you know how to do these stuff, you will be picking up things quickly.

1. Attend classes regularly

You should try to be regular in college and not miss too many classes. By doing this you get to know the topics which are being taught and have an idea of how much effort you have to put if you fall back.

2. Being active in class

Jot down the key points of every lecture you attend. With the help of this you can make your own notes for self study. Clear the doubts from your professors. An active class participation keeps you in the professors’ good books and this will be helpful later.

3. Use alternative learning methods

Use the online resources to their maximum potential. Nowadays, there are tons of awesome sites, tutorials on almost every topic. Consult them whenever you face any problem and it will be cleared. Keep soft copies of your notes, e-books so that you can access them anytime, anywhere.

4. Study constantly

Try to cover whatever is being taught in the class on the same day. This will prevent from falling behind in the course and not create last day panic. Studying throughout the year helps a lot during the exams and you can easily achieve good grades.

2. Operating Systems

Operating System Concepts is a highly recommended book. Be thorough with semaphores, paging and CPU Scheduling. You can also refer the book Modern Operating Systems by Tanenbaum for additional problems.

3. Databases

Database concepts are easier to understand and also fun to prepare. Relational algebra, SQL queries, normalization are sections from where questions are frequently asked. Database systems is a good book for this topic.

4. Theory of Computation and Compiler Design

A lot of questions are asked from these two sections. An Introduction to Formal Languages and Automataby Peter Linz is the go-to book for theory of computation. Focus on the topics regular expression, closure properties, undecidability for theory of computation.

For compiler design, focus on the topics, parsing and syntax analysis. Refer the book Compilers: Principles, Techniques and Tools.

5. Digital Logic and Computer Networks

For digital logic you just need to know the combinational circuits of multiplexers, decoders and demultiplexers. Refer the book,Digital Design by Morris Mano.
