Bangladesh Army’s Chinese-Origin Type 59 Tank Explodes During Firing Exercise; Two Soldiers K!lled

Two Bangladesh Army soldiers were ki!led and an officer was seriously injured after a tank exploded during a live-firing exercise at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram

Bangladesh’s Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the incident, stating that the accident occurred while firing was underway. The injured officer was evacuated by helicopter to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for treatment.

Media reports and footage identified the tank as a Chinese-origin Type 59, though the Bangladesh Army has not officially confirmed its model. The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, with authorities launching an investigation. Claims of ammunition failure or technical malfunction have not been officially confirmed.

Kremlin Confirms Su-57 Sale to India on Agenda for Modi-Putin Talks; Technology Transfer Under Discussion

Russia has confirmed that the potential sale of its fifth-generation Su-57 stealth fighter jets to India will be on the agenda when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin hold bilateral talks in New Delhi on September 11, ahead of the BRICS summit. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the issue of selling the aircraft to India is specifically on the agenda.

Peskov also confirmed that discussions are underway over India’s demand for technology transfer to enable local production of the Su-57. He said Indian scientists and officials are seeking production technologies, while acknowledging that advanced military technology is normally closely protected. Moscow, however, is prepared to discuss what technology could be made available to India given the two countries’ strategic partnership.

The discussions could potentially move India-Russia defence cooperation beyond a conventional buyer-seller relationship towards deeper industrial collaboration. The Su-57 talks are expected to take place alongside discussions on S-400 deliveries, BrahMos upgrades, nuclear energy cooperation, trade and other strategic issues.

Russia has been actively promoting the Su-57 to India as Moscow seeks to expand cooperation on advanced combat-aircraft technology. However, no final purchase agreement or definitive technology-transfer package has been announced yet. The September 11 Modi-Putin meeting could provide a key opportunity to determine the scope of any future Su-57 deal and industrial partnership.

NIA Chargesheets US National VanDyke & Six Ukrainians in Myanmar-Linked Case; No UAPA Charges in Current Chargesheet

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against US national Matthew Aaron VanDyke and six Ukrainian nationals in a case linked to their alleged activities involving ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. The current chargesheet does not invoke provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The seven were arrested on March 13, 2026. The NIA had initially booked VanDyke and the six Ukrainians under Section 18 of the UAPA while investigating their alleged activities and links with armed groups in Myanmar.

In the chargesheet filed before a special court in Delhi, the NIA has instead invoked Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The allegations primarily concern violations related to entry into and movement through restricted or protected areas, including crossing the India–Myanmar border through an unauthorised route.

The NIA has alleged that the group travelled to Mizoram without the required permit and crossed into Myanmar, where they were allegedly scheduled to provide training to ethnic armed groups in areas including drone operations, assembly and jamming technology.

The UAPA investigation remains ongoing. The agency may file a supplementary chargesheet if further investigation establishes offences under the UAPA.

CRPF to Take Over CT Ops in Parts of J&K; CoBRA to Be Deployed

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to take over counter-insurgency and counter-t*rrorism (CI/CT) responsibilities from the Army at 21 sensitive locations in Jammu & Kashmir’s Udhampur-Kathua belt. The move is part of a wider restructuring of the security grid in the region.

The CRPF’s specialised CoBRA units will also be deployed. Nine CoBRA teams are planned for the sector, while another nine will undergo training for future operational requirements. The force’s 24th, 121st and 187th battalions are also reported to have been assigned responsibilities at the identified locations.

The restructuring will include a phased reduction of Rashtriya Rifles deployment in certain areas, but it does not mean a complete Army withdrawal from J&K. A significant RR presence will continue.

India Moves to Upgrade Su-30MKI With Russia’s RVV-BD Missile

India’s Defence Ministry is considering a proposal to modify Su-30MKI fighter aircraft to integrate the Russian-origin RVV-BD long-range air-to-air missile, in a move aimed at strengthening the IAF’s beyond-visual-range air-combat capability. The proposal was scheduled to be considered by the Defence Acquisition Council on September 7.

The RVV-BD is designed for long-range aerial engagements and has been reported as capable of striking targets at up to around 300 km. Russian versions of the missile family are intended to engage high-value airborne platforms, including AEW&C and reconnaissance aircraft, with reports citing speeds of around Mach 6.

More than 260 Su-30MKIs are currently in IAF service, making the aircraft a central part of India’s fighter fleet. The platform is also undergoing wider modernisation to improve its sensors, weapons and ability to detect and engage targets at longer distances.

The proposal is part of India’s broader effort to strengthen its long-range air-to-air arsenal. DRDO is advancing longer-range Astra variants, while India has also ordered Meteor missiles from France, giving the IAF a combination of indigenous and foreign long-range missile options.

Indian Army Takes Firm Stand on Chinese Troop Positions Along LAC as India-China Hold First Corps-Level Talks in Arunachal Pradesh

The Indian and Chinese armies held their first Corps Commander-level talks in the eastern sector on September 6 at the Wacha-Damai border meeting point in Arunachal Pradesh, amid recent tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Indian side was represented by Lt Gen Girish Kalia, Commander of the Army’s III Corps, or Spear Corps.

Sources said the Indian Army has adopted a firm stance regarding the positions taken by Chinese troops in areas where differences persist. The talks are aimed at addressing the ongoing issues and preventing localised tensions from escalating. Indian troops continue to maintain a substantial presence in the area as a precaution against escalation.

The engagement comes amid reports of recent tensions in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district. Local reports and a fact-finding committee have raised allegations of Chinese activity and restrictions on Indian patrolling in the region, although the Indian Army has rejected claims that India has lost territory or posts in Arunachal Pradesh.

The talks also follow the August 25 meeting between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. India and China have been expanding military communication mechanisms to maintain peace along the LAC. The eastern-sector talks are significant because previous Corps Commander-level meetings were largely focused on the Ladakh sector following the 2020 Galwan clashes.

India’s Sarang Helicopter Display Team has reached Egypt to participate in the 2nd El Alamein International Airshow, scheduled to be held from 8 to 10 September 2026 at El Alamein International Airport.

The Indian Air Force’s Sarang team, flying the indigenously designed and manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, will showcase its precision flying and highly choreographed aerial manoeuvres.

Sarang is the world’s only five-helicopter display team and is renowned for demanding formation manoeuvres, close-proximity flying and synchronised aerial sequences. Its participation in the airshow marks another significant international engagement for the IAF and highlights the growing defence and diplomatic ties between India and Egypt.

The display will also showcase the capabilities of India’s indigenous aerospace industry alongside the exceptional flying skills, coordination and discipline of Sarang’s pilots.

Japan’s F-2A Fighters to Visit India for the First Time for ‘Ex-Veer Guardian 26’; IAF-JASDF Exercise to Be Held at Jodhpur

The Indian Air Force is set to host the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) for Exercise Veer Guardian 26 at Air Force Station Jodhpur, Rajasthan, marking the first-ever deployment of Japanese fighter aircraft to India for a bilateral exercise.

The JASDF will deploy three F-2A fighter aircraft from its 8th Air Wing at Tsuiki Air Base, along with around 110 personnel. The exercise is scheduled to focus primarily on air-combat manoeuvring and fighter training, allowing both air forces to train together, exchange operational experience and strengthen interoperability.

The Japanese fighters are expected to travel to India via Naha Air Base in Okinawa and Thailand, with U.S. Air Force aerial-refuelling support during the deployment.

Veer Guardian 26 is the second edition of the India-Japan bilateral fighter exercise, following the inaugural edition held in Japan in January 2023, where IAF Su-30MKIs operated alongside Japanese F-2 and F-15 fighters.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted an impressive ‘Elephant Walk’ involving its Dornier-228 (Do-228) aircraft fleet at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru.

The exercise showcased the IAF’s operational readiness, maintenance excellence and the seamless coordination between aircrew and ground personnel.

An ‘Elephant Walk’ is a military aviation manoeuvre in which multiple aircraft taxi in close formation on the runway before take-off. It demonstrates an air unit’s ability to coordinate and generate multiple sorties within a short period, while also highlighting aircraft availability and crew proficiency.

The IAF Training Command (TRACOM), which shared visuals of the formation, described the event as a testament to operational readiness, maintenance standards, seamless coordination and high levels of training and crew proficiency. The command highlighted the motto “Balamcha Budhischa”, reflecting the combination of strength, wisdom and training in building operational capability.

The Dornier-228 is a versatile twin-turboprop aircraft operated by the IAF for roles including light transport, maritime surveillance and training. The coordinated Elephant Walk at Yelahanka highlighted the fleet’s readiness and the professionalism of the personnel responsible for its operation and maintenance.
