Hidden on Elephanta Island near Mumbai, the Elephanta Caves (Gharapuri) are one of India’s most remarkable rock-cut heritage sites.

The caves were carved into solid basalt rock around the 5th–6th centuries CE and are predominantly dedicated to Lord Shiva. They are famous for their massive sculptures depicting different forms and aspects of Shiva, showcasing the extraordinary skill of ancient Indian artisans.

The sculpture shown here is a standing Ganesha, carved directly into the rock. Imagine creating something this detailed centuries ago—without modern machines or technology! 🤯

❄️ Ancient “Sunglasses” Made From Bone?! 👀

Long before modern sunglasses existed, Indigenous Arctic peoples such as the Inuit and Yupik developed ingenious snow goggles to protect their eyes from the intense glare reflected by snow and ice.

🦴 Made from materials such as bone, ivory, wood and antler, these goggles had narrow horizontal slits that reduced the amount of bright sunlight entering the eyes while still allowing the wearer to see.

☀️ The reflected sunlight could cause snow blindness—a painful UV-related injury to the eyes.

Archaeological evidence shows that this type of protective eyewear dates back at least around 1,000–2,000 years in some contexts, making it one of the earliest known forms of protective eyewear.

Ancient technology was sometimes surprisingly clever. 🧠❄️

Fact checked: The idea is real, but “the world's first glasses” and “thousands of years ago” are better stated more cautiously.

Narada Muni: More Than Just “Narayan Narayan” 🙏

Often portrayed on television as a humorous character who appears everywhere, cracks jokes and creates mischief, Narada Muni has a much deeper place in Hindu traditions.

Traditional texts portray him as a divine sage, messenger and ardent devotee of Bhagwan Vishnu/Narayana. He appears across the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranic literature and is closely associated with the teaching and propagation of Bhakti.

The Narada Bhakti Sutra is especially associated with his teachings on devotion, presenting Bhakti as the supreme love for God.

His role is therefore much greater than the comic character often shown on television: a seeker, teacher, messenger and devoted servant of Narayana.

So the next time you hear “Narayan… Narayan…”, remember the wisdom behind the voice. 🕉️

Raja Ravi Varma’s iconic painting “Yashoda and Krishna” has been sold for a record-breaking ₹167.2 crore at Saffronart’s Spring Live Auction in Mumbai. 🖼️✨

The painting, created in the 1890s, was acquired by Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, making it the most expensive Indian artwork ever sold at auction. 💰

The sale surpassed the previous record held by M.F. Husain’s “Untitled (Gram Yatra)”, which sold for over ₹118 crore in 2025.
