*Sergio Sesi joins NorthEast United FC as Assistant Coach*

*Guwahati, 15 July 2025:* NorthEast United FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Spanish coach Sergio Sesi as the club’s new Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025–26 season.

A UEFA Pro License holder, Sesi brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked in diverse football environments across Spain, Morocco, and China. Known for his tactical understanding and dynamic coaching style, Sesi is expected to play a key role alongside Head Coach Juan Pedro Benali, with whom he worked as his assistant in 2021 when the Spaniard was in charge of RS Berkane in the Moroccan top division.

"Having worked in Spain, Morocco, and China, coming to India felt like a challenge I truly wanted to embrace. I had heard good things about NorthEast United FC, and after speaking to Coach Juan Pedro Benali, I was convinced this was the right next step in my career. I'm excited to be part of this project and to contribute to the club's journey," Sesi said.

"I’ve known Sergio for many years, and have previously worked with him. He brings energy, deep tactical insight, and a clear understanding of modern football. I believe his presence will strengthen our team and help us grow further, both on and off the pitch," Juan Pedro Benali, head coach, NorthEast United FC, said.

"We are very pleased to welcome Sergio to the Highlanders family. His international experience and coaching pedigree will strengthen our team both on and off the pitch," Mandar Tamhane, CEO, NorthEast United FC, added.

Sesi linked up with the squad as NorthEast United FC began their pre-season in Guwahati ahead of their Durand Cup title defence.

MP D.T. Lepcha Advocates for Revival of Nathula Border Trade During Meeting at Udyog Bhawan

Following the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, Rajya Sabha MP from Sikkim, D.T. Lepcha, met with Aishwarya Singh, Joint Secretary of the Department of Commerce, at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi. During the meeting, the MP strongly advocated for the revival of the historic border trade between India and Tibet through Nathula Pass in Sikkim.

Like the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, the Indo-Tibet trade via Nathula was suspended in the aftermath of the Doklam standoff and the COVID-19 pandemic, and called for its swift restoration in the interest of border communities and national strategy.

Highlighting the strategic and economic significance of the trade route, MP Lepcha emphasized that the reopening of the Nathula border trade would not only enhance local livelihoods and boost the regional economy but also deepen people-to-people ties and support India’s Act East Policy.

In addition to the trade revival, MP Lepcha also raised concerns related to the tea growers of the Gnathang-Machong region. He submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) along with a proposal seeking financial assistance for the establishment of a modern tea processing factory aimed at promoting local agro-based industry and empowering small farmers.
