DM Reasi Stresses Prioritizing Ration Supply and Relief Distribution in Disaster-Hit Areas

Reviews ongoing restoration works for connecting vital road links.

Reasi, 7 September : District Magistrate Reasi Nidhi Malik, IAS, who also serves as Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, conducted a comprehensive review of restoration works across the district. The review focused on road connectivity, power and water supply restoration, ration availability, and relief distribution in the subdivisions of Katra, Mahore, and Dharmari.

The District Magistrate directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to ensure that landslide-prone roads are opened for traffic only after proper clearance and favorable weather conditions, stressing that safety must not be compromised. She instructed them to explore alternate routes wherever necessary to maintain essential connectivity.

To ensure timely relief, the District Magistrate asked SDMs and Tehsildars to oversee the immediate distribution of relief supplies—including tents, mattresses, and blankets—on a rational and need-based basis, prioritizing the most affected households.

Special emphasis was placed on PMGSY and PWD roads in Mahore subdivision, with the DM directing XENs to fast-track clearance of key roads such as Arnas–Chillad Road, Dhamini–Deval Road, Sadgu–Bariot Road, and several critical roads in the Chassan block including Dangakote and Bagankote, so that essential supplies can reach remote areas without delay. Roads leading to depot stations were directed to be cleared on priority to ensure continuous supply chains and prevent shortages.

During the review, the DM also discussed the Arnas–Sawalkote link issue with SDM Dharmari, noting that the matter has already been taken up with the Railway authorities to strengthen connectivity for both people and supplies. SDM Mahore was instructed to ensure that relief camps are well-equipped with all necessary facilities for the affected population.

The XENs raised the issue of muck from GREF’s work being dumped on roads, leading to frequent obstructions and re-blocking even after clearance. The District Magistrate assured that the matter would be escalated and taken up with higher authorities. She further directed that a joint meeting of GREF officials and the Mahore subdivision administration be held today to address and resolve these concerns.

The District Magistrate further reviewed the status of electricity and water restoration, directing the XEN PHE to make all water schemes at least partially functional at the earliest, and the PDD to expedite power restoration, particularly in remote areas.
In addition, she assessed the progress of damage assessments in agriculture, horticulture, sheep husbandry, and animal husbandry sectors, directing departments to complete the process swiftly through SDMs so that relief measures can be extended to farmers without delay.

The District Magistrate emphasized that all line departments must work in close coordination to restore normalcy and ensure that essential services and relief reach every affected household promptly. ADC Reasi Rakesh Kumar, CPO Narinder Kumar, ACR, SDMs, XENs, District officer

DC Reasi orders Termination of Four RDD Employees including GRS & Technical Assistant for Corrupt Practices

Reasi: In a strong move against corruption, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik (IAS), has ordered the termination of four employees of the Rural Development Department (RDD) after an enquiry revealed their involvement in serious irregularities, manipulation of records, and embezzlement of government funds.

The action comes after a detailed enquiry which exposed large-scale violations under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). ADDC Reasi Sukhdev Singh was the enquiry officer.

In Block Jij Bagli, the terminated officials, Mohd. Latief (GRS) and Rahil Magotra (Technical Assistant), were found guilty of manipulating official records, issuing fake and duplicate job cards, and irregular sanctioning of multiple IHHL units in violation of SBM guidelines. The enquiry revealed that out of 55 job cards under complaint, seven were fake, five were duplicates, twenty-four were deleted, and thirty-one still remained active. The officials were also held responsible for misappropriation of government funds under MGNREGA, as highlighted in the Social Audit report.

Similarly, in Block Chassana, Abdul Qayoom (GRS) and Arun Gandotra (Technical Assistant) were found responsible for major irregularities in the ex*****on of works under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Despite financial records reflecting an expenditure of ₹3.00 lakh for the construction of a Community Sanitary Complex (CSC) in Panchayat Chassana-A, the asset was not found on the ground during the Social Audit.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner has taken up the matter with the Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD), recommending strict and exemplary action against the permanent employees who were posted during the period of irregularities. These include the BDOs of Chassana and Jij Bagli, AEE (REW Subdivision Mahore), Junior Engineers, and Panchayat Secretaries.

The Deputy Commissioner Reasi has also urged initiation of recovery proceedings against those involved, in line with the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956, so that accountability is enforced and such malpractices are not repeated in the future.

Advocate Zahid Malik urges University of Jammu to postpone JKSET Examination scheduled on 7th September 2025

Jammu, September 6, 2025: Advocate Zahid Malik has appealed to the University of Jammu and JKSET authorities to postpone the JKSET/LASET (2024-25) Examination scheduled to be held on Sunday, 7th September 2025.

In his statement, Advocate Malik highlighted that due to continuous heavy rains and frequent landslides, roads connecting far-flung areas such as Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar remain blocked. As a result, it has become extremely difficult, and in some cases impossible, for aspirants from these regions to reach their designated examination centres in Jammu.

He further emphasized, “Examinations can always be re-conducted, but the lives of students cannot be put at risk. Safety and accessibility must be given priority.”

Advocate Malik urged the University of Jammu and the concerned authorities to take an immediate and sympathetic view of the matter in the interest of fairness and student safety.
