Order Judicial Inquiry Into Alleged Torture of Talib Hussain Choudhary, Allow Access to Family and Associates: Farooq Inqlabi
Rajouri, June 3: Senior PDP leader Mohd Farooq Inqlabi has expressed serious concern over reports alleging that political and social activist Talib Hussain Choudhary was subjected to physical torture while in police custody. He has urged the government to constitute an independent judicial inquiry committee and ensure a comprehensive medical examination of Talib Hussain Choudhary to establish the facts.
In a statement, Farooq Inqlabi said that Talib Hussain Choudhary was taken into custody while peacefully protesting in support of the residents of Sidhra Bandi, whose houses were demolished by the authorities a few days ago. According to Inqlabi, Talib Hussain was raising his voice for the affected families and highlighting their grievances through democratic and peaceful means.
Farooq Inqlabi stated that Talib Hussain Choudhary has been in police custody for the past two days, and reports have emerged alleging that he was subjected to physical assault and ill-treatment during detention. He said these allegations have raised serious concerns among the public and must be investigated through a fair, impartial, and transparent process.
He further expressed concern that no one has reportedly been allowed to meet Talib Hussain Choudhary since his detention. According to Inqlabi, the denial of access to family members, associates, and well-wishers has created anxiety and apprehension among those concerned about his well-being.
Farooq Inqlabi called on the government to immediately establish a judicial inquiry committee, arrange an independent medical examination of Talib Hussain Choudhary, and make the findings public so that the truth can be established and public confidence maintained.
He added that if any wrongdoing or excessive use of force is found to have occurred, those responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the law. At the same time, if the allegations are found to be unsubstantiated, that too should be clearly communicated to the public.
Farooq Inqlabi emphasized that the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right and that the protection of human rights, transparency in law enforcement, and the safeguarding of the rights of detainees are essential principles of a democratic society.
