Chaurasi Kutia — also known as the “Beatles Ashram” — is one of the most peaceful and mysterious places in Rishikesh. Hidden inside the forest near the Ganga, this abandoned ashram became world-famous in 1968 when The Beatles stayed here to learn meditation from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
The name “Chaurasi Kutia” means “84 huts,” referring to the small meditation cottages built for spiritual practice. Today, its graffiti-covered walls, silent meditation domes, and jungle pathways give it a unique mix of spirituality, history, and art. Many people visit not just for photos, but for the calm energy and feeling of detachment from the outside world.
