APUWJ, APC observe 6th death anniversary of veteran journalist Taro Chatung

Itanagar, Oct 26: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Sunday observed the 6th death anniversary of veteran journalist late Taro Chatung at the Press Club, paying rich tributes to the pioneer of journalism in Arunachal Pradesh.

Remembered as the “father of electronic media” in the state, Chatung was lauded for his fearless reporting and lifelong dedication to journalism.

APC Vice President Bengia Ajum urged young journalists to uphold Chatung’s legacy by focusing on issues, not agendas. His wife, Taro Bina, expressed gratitude to the media fraternity for their continued support and recalled his passion for journalism despite its challenges.

Floral tributes and a minute’s silence were observed in his honour.

Joint Civil–Military Trek to Idu Mishmi Sacred Site ‘Athupopu’ Concludes at Anini
Anini, Dibang Valley | 24 October 2025

A joint Civil–Military Trek to the revered Idu Mishmi sacred site Athupopu successfully concluded today with a flag-in ceremony at Anini. The trek, which was flagged off on 12 October 2025, aimed to promote civil–military cooperation and honour the rich cultural legacy associated with Athupopu.

The expedition witnessed enthusiastic participation from both civilian trekkers and Army personnel of the Spear Corps, who together traversed challenging high-altitude terrain—passing through mountains, valleys, and pristine lakes—before reaching the sacred site to offer prayers and pay homage.

The District Administration, Dibang Valley, lauded the successful conduct of the trek, highlighting that such collaborative initiatives not only preserve and promote indigenous traditions but also strengthen trust, mutual respect, and cooperation between the local population and the Indian Army in the sensitive border region.
